Welcome to Friday Foto Flogging, a place to share your photos and photography news. We were inspired by the folks at European Tribune who post a regular Friday Photoblog series to try the same on this side of the virtual Atlantic. We also thought foto folks would enjoy seeing some other websites so each week we’ll introduce a different photo website.
This Month’s Theme: Random / Your Choice
Website(s) of the Month: The Unseen Sea: Time lapse photography of San Francisco’s famous fog.

A few Everglades residents.
Wood Stork

Tricolor Heron

Check out the scratches and divots from alligator teeth.

Those are great shots – love the plumage of the Wood Stork. Looks like it’s wearing a big white feather boa … 😉 How does it stay so clean living in that environment. As for the turtle, yikes!
I’ll be right over for cake! 🙂
Those are all wonderful but that Tricolor Heron is so majestic.
Great necks!
Wonderfull shots. I’d like a chance at’m that close up!
Thanks, access in Everglades National Park is excellent. Well worth a trip.
Really nice close-in work. Mr/Ms turtle is probably lucky not to have been someone’s lunch.
Thanks. We’ve seen a few soft shells get caught over the years but not the hard shells.
Went to Delaware with my brother and his fiance last Saturday to see The Fleshtones:
My brother also got to play with The Fleshtones:
I took Elliott to Adventure Aquarium in Camden, NJ recently. Here are some pics from inside and out.
A Canadian Goose taking flight when we got too close:
A big jellyfish:
A small alligator/crocodile. Really not sure, but I think it’s an alligator.
We had a fire in the Port Richmond section of Philadelphia a couple Saturdays ago. I got a bunch of shots. Here’s one:
“The Bottom”
And lastly, I found an Angel after I cut down a tree:
Good set — I’m especially attracted to the perspective and mood of “The Bottom” and the framing (and color) of the jelly fish.
All great but I love the way you tilted the frame on the phire foto. It looks like something my sixth graders do when I give them a camera. They get the main element in the frame however they can.
The reason I did the tilt was actually to capture the scope of the smoke cloud. Since I was shooting with my 50mm, I had limited field of view.
The rest of the fire pics can be viewed here where there’s also a short iPhone video showing the area.
Nice random set. Great siteline on the croc/alligator eye. My favourite is “The Bottom” – the vert and hor lines vs the random tree branches. I like it a lot.
I like the focus on action, or impending action, in those first six.
In The Bottom, I liked the contrast between the organization of the man made structures and the chaos of what nature created.
As to designs appearing in cut wood it certainly is amazing what can be revealed.
Both exceptional portraits ~ love ’em!
In the mood for beaches this week – must be the season 🙂

Ilha Grande, Brazil:
Is there anywhere you haven’t been … and made look spectacularly appealing, even when it’s an industrial harbor.
a lot of places, actually 😉
Hamburg harbor is a pretty cool place. This beach, Elbstrand, is pretty popular with locals in the summer. A lot of people take the ferry after work to go there for a drink, barbecue or picknick. And the scenery is pretty awesome with big container ships going by.
You keep adding places to go on to my bucket list.
thanks, I’ll do my best to add more in the coming Friday foto diaries.
Lovely set. I’m with both Andi and Jim — you’ve been everywhere and your photos make me want to visit too. 🙂
thanks, living in Germany, it’s actually not that difficult to go almost anywhere within Europe, a two to three hour drive can take me to five different countries. the most awesome and rewarding place thus far has been Brazil though, highly recommended!
Well, I’ve been to the Oregon beaches, but I see there’s a few left to see. Thanks for the visual incentives.
(Hey, bet you don’t have any shots of ND beaches. 🙂
hah, would have loved to just post a pic instead of write a reply 😉 ND is a place I still have to visit one of these days. Had to drive from San Francisco to Portland recently and chose the scenic route instead of the interstate. was a rewarding choice.
Very wise choice on scenic vs interstate.
I would suggest same for ND, ie any route other than I-94. Travelers on that may as well use auto pilot, crawl into the bunk on leaving MT, set the alarm for arrival in MN.
IMNSHO we have some great scenery on alternative routes. Let me know when you’re coming, I’ll provide a roof and BBQ some Bison for ya, seriously!
(Same goes for other BTers.)
Positano and Hamburg were my favorites this time around, but they all intrigue me.
thanks! more about Hamburg in a comment above. Positano was a lovely place though cold in November. the entire Amalfi coast line is quite fascinating.
What a superb collection! Every shot is just great. Must be the end of Winter ..

Redbud

Wow, town is looking very colorful. About the only color we’ve got are the maple flowers and some tinges of green on the taller poplars.
You city mice are way ahead of us county mice.
Oh wow — you have so much growing! I love them all. 🙂
That’s quite the collection of items on Flea’s Forsythia porch.
Those were just the day brighteners I needed, since otherwise the day’s visuals have been murky flood waters and overcast skies, here along the Red River here in Fargo.
Speaking of floods, I thought I heard Fargo was getting a new flood barrier of some sort.
Yeah, I forget what they call it now. I’ll see if I can round something up on that. They’re getting to be professional flood fighters around here, for all the, so called, hundred-year-floods we’ve had since ’97.
The Hudson River earlier today, looking toward the infamous Indian Point nuclear plant.
It’s gorgeous (I’m putting all thoughts of the nuclear plant out mind and view).
Are the parabolic cooling towers just beyond the hill where the sky is glowing?
They’re against the land mass in the far distance. I’m not sure if they’re actually visible in this shot.
Lovely view.
Very serene. A bit more angle of incline on the land and you’d have yourself a fjord shot!
Nice! A view from the commute?
Yep. I see this every day.

Love that lost shot.
Ooooh, the colours in the first wood anemone are so beautiful. And the maple flowers look so delicate. And love the way you’ve captured that little unopened blossom in the bottom photo. Lovely shots Jim!
Nice detail on all of them. I’ll have to pay attention to my maples this year, as I think I’ve missed see their flowers at the macro level previously. Thanks for the preview.
I don’t recall ever seeing an anemone in the woods, so you’ve got me on that. The maple flowers are too, too numerous on the sidewalk this time of year. I’ll put up with them in exchange for the shade this summer, though.
Andi & Olivia, great sets. Both or you have “food” pictures. “Placed” looks like bread dough being extruded from a machine. And Olivia is the Mocha cake a petit fours or will I have to eat it in two bites?
Heh – depending on how big your eyes/mouth/stomach are … 😉 It’s good for about 4 tea-plate-sized servings.
Yes sirree bob, that Mocha cake looks mighty fine to me too. After a piece of that and a 12 oz Mocha single shot of espresso, I’d like to hike on down that the interesting shots you and AndiF come up with.
Now, off to find AndiF’s latest comment.
Say you guys, (AndiF and olivia) if’n you’d make the first two comments to these FFF diaries I’d know where to comment on your contributions… Just a thought.
For me, Trail conjured up a mental image of a world out of a fantasy novel. Seems inviting, just watch for traps;-)
Fantastic submissions.

AndiF,
I can`t get the code to work on that suggestion you gave me yesterday, but I shall return shortly once I work it out.
Tough to pick some favorites out of all those, but the sunset are my favorites.
I love that sunset, 2nd from top! Beautifully done!
My first pick is the glads, but the hummingbird shots are a very close second.
AndiF,

Here you go.
And there he is,”Hi ya, Homer Blenny!!”
THANK YOU!!!! What a great blenny photo. You are too good to me.
On the other set (see, I looked at them too), I was amazed by the hummingbirds, touched by the baby bunny, wowed by the sunset but I had no trouble picking a favorite — the incredibly beautiful yucca in the mist shot.
Whelll! As Jack Blenny used to say, there you are AndiF.
Re: Tossed, Carried and Placed.
Tossed is a fun one, reminded me of when as a kid we played anti-eye-over the shed roof in my backyard, only we used a rubber ball, hah! Did it take long to throw them all up there? 🙂
As for Placed, that was pretty darn creative combination of objects, for some great 3D reflections.
Carried, however, was the one that carried me away. I really do think this one is just absolutely spectacular. And I do intend to inquire via email as to your policy on dissemination of same.
I have to agree with you on Carried. Love the dappling, rippling effects.
Taking photos of the rocks, light and flow patterns in the creeks is one of my favorite things to do. I just never get tired of them.
Thanks, NDD.
Tossed is at a swimming area at the kid’s camp we share a property line with and those rocks have been up there since this summer. I just can’t imagine how they got up there. 🙂
Got your email and replied to it. And my policy is pretty much, if you want a photo, I want you to have it.
Hey, Great Policy!
Replied to your reply too, although I suspect you’re catchings some Zs no in anticipation of the usual 4:00 AM dog alarm.
If there’s ever another Star Wars episode, they should cast Blenny as an alien bartender. What a personality!

? Sparrow
I don’t have my bird book here in the city, so maybe someone will recognize this cute little birdie.
Junco
At one time I had a couple hundred of these guys in the farm yard.
Junco
I think your sparrow may be a finch. Do juncos only exist when it snows or is that the only time they can be seen?
The juncos migrate through our area spring and fall, snow or no snow. I think this is the first season I’ve seen such huge numbers of them in a particular day.
Lot of species seem to be massing this side of the border… waiting for customs clearance, no doubt. Flight licenses are no longer sufficient, now they must have RFID Passports to enter CANADA.
I’ll leave the bird id’s to someone who knows something and just concentrate on feeling very, very sorry for all the birds (and people) dealing with all that snow.
