It’s kind of fun to see such a clear example of a Republican governor getting slapped by reality.
Gov. Nathan Deal is asking for an expedited report on how the crackdown on illegal immigration enacted by the General Assembly this spring is affecting Georgia agriculture.
Farmers have complained in recent weeks that their crops are rotting in the fields and orchards because migrant workers afraid of deportation are bypassing Georgia in droves, even though the law doesn’t take effect until July 1.
Deal, who signed the legislation last month and has been a strong supporter of immigration reform, said he wants to get beyond anecdotal evidence and look at actual numbers.
What? Illegal immigrants actually work? Farmers actually rely on their labor? Crops go to waste if migrant workers don’t work in the fields?
That’s just crazy talk. With 9% unemployment, I’m sure plenty of Glenn Beck’s bitter unemployed listeners can fill the void.
more evidence supporting my hypothesis: conservatives and republicans do not have foresight.
that’s very ‘Zen’ of them.
It’s all liberal’s fault for freeing the slaves.
Georgia’s farmers, Florida’s police officers…people are waking up.
did you really think Slavery ended in Georgia and Florida with the Civil War? Think again, my friend…
And we won’t see Beck surly minions taking their places..for them, the pay’s too poor, and all those fat white folk would throw out their backs bending over for that long…
there is a movie called “A Day Without Mexicans”. I admit to never seeing it, it seemed a bit stereotypical to me, but reading this story reminded me of the title of this movie.
This state of affairs, just reinforces the notion that until something affects certain people directly, then they will NOT empathize with those who are usually affected.
it’s actually a really fun movie, I recommend it highly.
let the crops rot
No worries, we can still import cheap produce from Mexico.
We need stuff to eat, not smoke or shoot.
I’m not sure exactly what you mean by that.
Mexican drug war joke.
Figured, but wanted to make sure 🙂
But, but, but, aren’t these unfilled jobs the very same ones that those immigrants were taking away from real Americans? :::gasp:::
You kidding? Do you have ANY idea how hard it is to pick peaches from a mobility scooter?
