Temperature in my office has gone up 5 degrees in the past 30 minutes, with more warm air pouring in the vents…

    ugh.

Feeling your pain. At least you don’t have to pay for the repairs or the new AC at work. Our new AC is working, and I hope it will for at least as long as our old one did.

Sounds like a great reason for everybody to work at home today.

I’m debatin heading there soon…the AC is still blowing warm air into my office, and mine is the worst of those without AC…

While I’m griping about work, cam i just say how tired I am of truculent, grumpy old men who think they should have had my job instead of me? It’s given me new perspective on what my mother’s working life was like thirty years ago.

I just watched 42 episodes of Mad Men in under a week…I assume it was a lot like that for your mom.  Not the glamour and the hotness of Don Draper..but everything else.

It wasn’t all that different when I started working — in fact, there were still separate job ads for men and women and at my college’s career placement office the first question they asked after finding out I wasn’t an education or nursing major was “how fast can you type?”.

            P.S. Recovered from the wedding?

          • Second Nature
Second Nature on August 9, 2011 at 3:50 pm

The wedding was really a lot of fun and I hate weddings. They have such a great group of friends who put the whole thing together on a really tight budget.  To top it off, I got to stay at a swanky hotel with my somewhat longtime companion and I didn’t even have to pay for it. 🙂 Back to the real world with no king sized bed and no chocolates on the pillow…

I’m not too keen on weddings either but those pictures made Ryan’s look like it was a really fine time (and wedding). I’m glad you got to enjoy it — it seems like a lot of moms (well at least one that I can think of) spend most of their time fretting about everything.

We’ve actually had a cool down here — upper 80s today and low 80s for the rest of the week. Hope you are going to get the same (but still work from home).

A/C is now fixed. And those 80-degree temps sound awesome, and should be here in time for my wfh days (Thursday and Friday).  Yay!

    feels like a frat party:

    1. There are half-full, brightly-colored plastic cups on the floor in every room. Three are in the bathtub.
    2. There’s always that one girl, bawling her eyes out in a corner.
    3. It’s best not to assume that the person closest to you has any… control over their digestive function.
    4. You sneak off to the bathroom knowing that as soon as you sit down, someone’s going to start banging on the door.
    5. Probably 80% of the stains on the furniture contain DNA.
    6. You’ve got someone in your face at 3 a.m. looking for a drink.
    7. There’s definitely going to be a fight.
    8. You’re not sure whether anything you’re doing is right, you just hope it won’t get you arrested.
    9. There are crumpled-up underpants everywhere.
    10. You wake up wondering exactly how and when the person in bed with you got there.

Weird, weird, weird. Those two comments were “posted” at the same time. I did the first one (the second one to post) and it never posted so I closed the window and did the second one (the first one to post) in a different window. And somehow that first one posts almost an hour later.

if the truck testes had been painted with the confederate battle flag, would the police officer have said anything?

if they get cut off, is that called carstration?

And gloomy!  It looks like it’s 8 o’clock at night right now – but I guess it will be easy to convince Finny to take his nap today.

It has been so long since we had a good nasty rain day that I’m enjoying this one.  Just picked up CBtE from a friend’s house, and we’re just going to chill this afternoon, and evening.

The bees kept falling into the flowers and crawling out like someone on a pub crawl. It was great fun watching them.

        • wilderness wench
wilderness wench on August 16, 2011 at 11:28 am

          Yes, they’re great to watch.

When I got my first digital camera I spent a lot of time sitting in the flowers taking pictures of them. It was a great exercise. They barely noticed me, busy as they were.

Nowadays they’re into the mullein. It seems to make them a little bit sleepy. Or maybe it’s the weather.

On another note, our skies have lightened to a pale grayish blue, from the deep gray overcast we’ve enjoyed for most of the morning.

      • AndiF
AndiF on August 16, 2011 at 6:24 am

        Thanks too.

If there was rain with that gray, I’d prefer it over all the blue sky we’ve had — though we did get a bit of rain on Sunday (but just .2 of an inch).

Glad you made it home ok.

I heard about inredible rainfall amounts throughout the region. 8 – 11″ in 24 hours. We seem to be clearing out today. Back to the outdoor chores for me, dammit.
