Okay, so I finally got the Fantasy Football draft out of the way. Here’s my Week One starters:
QB: Matt Schaub
RB: Chris Johnson (assuming he’s ready)
RB: Ahmad Bradshaw
WR: Calvin Johnson
WR: Dwayne Bowe
WR: Mario Manningham
TE: Tony Gonzalez
W/T: Johnny Knox
W/R: BenJarvus Green-Ellis
DEF: Chicago Bears
D: Clay Matthews
If Chris Johnson isn’t ready, I’ll suit up Marshawn Lynch.
Considering I started with the fifth overall pick, I think this is very strong team. How’s it stack up to yours?
QB: Tom Brady. adv: joe
RB: Ahmad Bradshaw. adv: none
RB: DeAngelo Williams. adv: BooMan
WR: Greg Jennings. adv: none
WR: Brandon Lloyd. adv: none
WR: Mike Thomas. adv: ?
TE: Brandon Pettigrew. adv: none
No flex.
No flex.
K: Phil Dawson. adv: none
Def: Da Bears. adv: none
No IDP.
Tough to compare, but I’d say Matthews is a better IDP than Dawson is a kicker.
Still, I’m pretty happy.
I don’t know what you’ll get out of D’Angelo, but I doubt they’ll want Cam passing too much this season.
Do they do “Fantasy Baseball?” Or how about “Fantasy Politics?” Those could be fun for me, maybe.
I don’t know or care much about American Football but this fascinations with “Fantasy Football” really stumps me. I am curious what people really see in it.
They do indeed have Fantasy Baseball.
Also: Fantasy Congress. You draft Reps and Senators, and get points for bills they sponsor, and get passed. I believe you lose points if they get indicted.
Fantasy Football is just a fun gaming system. It also makes the NFL – not just your team, but all the games – more interesting.
Boo, I like your Schaub and Bears picks a lot. But stay away from Marshawn Lynch. Speaking as a local, the Seahawks’ O-line is just dreadful this year. Two rookies and a second-year guy who missed most of last year with injuries and was also hurt this preseason. In the preseason games they couldn’t block anyone.
Didn’t you guys get Robert Gallery and Zach Miller? They can block.
Geez, you finally post something that I feel like I’m qualified to speak on, and I’m out of town for the weekend. Figures.
It’s tough to tell how strong your team is without knowing how many people are in your league and what scoring rules you play by. I’d say your team is probably too good to be a 14 team league, so I’m guessing 10 or 12. If 10, I’d say you’re pretty strong. If 12, very strong.
Watch out for bye weeks – you have 2 running backs on bye in week 6, and 2 on bye in week 7.
The league I play in is a 14 team league, with 4 keepers. It’s very competitive, everyone pays close attention to their team and the NFL. Here’s how my roster shook out (* – keeper):
QB – Vick *
RB – J. Charles *
RB – D. McFadden *
WR – M. Wallace *
WR – M. Colston
TE – V. Shiancoe
W/R/T – R. Bush
D – Tampa
K – none picked yet. Wanted to wait until after last round of preseason in case of injuries
Backups:
QB – K. Kolb
WR – P. Burress, L. Murphy, E. Royal
RB – R. Brown, D. Brown, Taiwan Jones (my sleeper / DMC insurance)
Overall I’m pretty happy with it. All my starters are solid and I think some of my late round picks could have potentially big years.
Fantasy football is getting to be more and more of a crapshoot. More teams are going to running back platoons and 4 or 5 receiver spread sets, so it’s getting more and more difficult to predict who is going to be reliable for fantasy purposes.
Colston is coming off an injury. I’d be worried about him.
Also, the SPCA may be coming for you.
I’m a little worried about him, but he was really my best available option by the time the draft got to me – 13th pick out of 14 in a league where 56 players total are off the board before drafting even starts.
I’m hoping either Royal or Burress has a good year this year, and can be my Colston insurance.
One of the reasons I drafted Burress was because of what Vick did last year. My rate of success with players just out of prison is impeccable. You know, 1 for 1.
you should go for an all-felon lineup.
With Vick two years in a row, you’re really inviting trouble with the SPCA.
I’m pretty sure Donte Stallworth is available. Maybe I’ll pick him up.
I’m inviting even more trouble with some of my facebook friends than I am the SPCA. My argument is that he did his time, and if he’s not contrite he’s at least doing a good job pretending to be, and saying the right things. Their argument basically boils down to, I don’t give shit, he’s a horrible person and deserves to be tortured and killed. Which is an argument I find hypocritical to borderline GOP-level.
Neither Vivk nor Rothlisberger will ever be on my fantasy team because I don’t want to root for them.
I also have a pretty solid no-Cowboys rule. I think I had Roy Williams at one point as a fourth WR, but that’s it in five years of playing.
