Hank Williams, long time singer of the opening anthem for Monday Night Football, has been removed from tonight’s ESPN telecast of the game between Tampa Bay and Indianapolis for comparing Obama to Hitler on our favorite Fair and Balanced Propaganda News Channel. Specifically he made the following comments to “Fox and Friends” Brian Kilmeade:
The country singing star and voice of the Monday Night Football theme song, Williams appeared on “Fox and Friends” this morning to talk politics via satellite hookup. He got right into it, telling the hosts … that John Boehner’s golf game with Barack Obama was a major mistake.
“That would be like Hitler playing golf with Netanyahu. Not hardly. In the shape this country is in?”
When Brian Kilmeade said that he didn’t understand the analogy, Williams was non-plussed. “I’m glad you don’t brother, because a lot of people do. They’re the enemy… Obama! And Biden! Are you kidding? The Three Stooges.”
Well, if we’ve learned one thing about conservatives, a lot of them have trouble with “the math.” He Hank, Obama and Biden can’t be the Three Stooges because — duh — Biden and Obama are only two people and … Oh what’s the use. He wouldn’t get it anyway. Meanwhile, ESPN, who knows a lot of non-Tea Party people like football, too, issued the following statement:
“While Hank Williams, Jr. is not an ESPN employee, we recognize that he is closely linked to our company through the open to Monday Night Football. We are extremely disappointed with his comments, and as a result we have decided to pull the open from tonight’s telecast.”
Now, for those of you who might shout “First Amendment!” and “Freedom of Speech!” and “Censorship!” and “Political Correctness!” blah, blah, blah, let me remind you that right only applies to actions taken by the government against we, the people. You know, actions such as cordoning off the Brooklyn Bridge and the arresting hundreds of people who were peaceably assembling to state their grievances and express their displeasure at the way Government has protected and bailed out Big Banks who have committed fraud. People like these:
Nobody violated Hank Williams free speech rights. He was free to make an idiot of himself on Fox and Friends and ESPN is free to remove his presence from their telecast. Hell, I’ve never liked his song anyway.
u right about hank, but that was not a “brutal crackdown”. What happened to black people in NOLA during Katrina was a brutal crackdown.
…against us the people. I suppose you could make an argument for “against we the people” but only if you put “we the people” in quotation marks to explain why you were ignoring correct usage.
like it. keep posting good stuff!!
thanks for sharing it with us…

I support the idea of pulling the open, but I wouldn’t have been upset at ESPN or thought they had made a mistake if they had chosen to do nothing.
Well, I’ve already won my fantasy game for the week; the Colts without Manning are more boring than a CPAC conference, and the Yankees are on teevee, so Hank Williams and his intro can go fuck themselves.
Hmmm, as an AA nothing surprises me anymore, not Perry and N***&*head ranch, and not Hank Williams Jr’s Obama, Biden, and Hitler walks into a bar schtick.
It is what it is.
What would really please me is if ESPN got Jay-Z or Kanye “Bush Hates Black People” West, or Young “My President is Black” Jeezy, or T-Pain to perform/produce/write the “new” intro for Monday Night Football. You’d really see heads explode.
Please God, Allah, Buddha, Goddess, Zeus, whoever, let this happen.
A simple market correction…
This garbage has been going on for nearly four years now.

the right thinks Obama is Hitler, the left thinks he’s Chamberlain. Maybe he has found the middle ground.
I look forward to the country music establishment making a huge stink over William’s words and running over his CDs with bulldozers and banning him from radio, just as they did when the the Dixie Chicks said they were ashamed of W. Because patriotic country music folks would never stand by and watch a president of the USA get defamed. Right?
When anyone mentions Hank Williams, you must ask them are they talking about Hank Dixie Chicks Williams?
The right thinks Obama is Hitler, the left thinks he’s Chamberlain. Maybe he has found the middle ground.
anyone who’s a real country music fan knows that hank williams junior isn’t worth a drop of his old man’s piss (Hank III on the other hand…).
so here’s some real country music. Hank Junior can fuck himself.
I love the cleanness and the simplicity of the sound and the music. But I like to have some more soul and emotion in it.
here’s one of my favorites.

fun fact: sharon white guitar) is married to ricky skaggs, both of them far far FAR right fundie christians.
When sharon was a girl, her dad Buck (on the mandolin) would sometimes have to pull her off stage when she’d go into her holy roller/fire-n-brimstone routine.
The football anthem made famous by Hank Williams.

I’m not sure that Hank William’s appearance on a privately-owned propaganda network has anything at all to do with the sort of free speech and assembly issues of Occupy Wall Street.
What seems to be the case is that Williams was either drunk or drugged when he did the interview. Or has a terminal case of ODS.
This is the tell:
Right, Hank. 1+1=3
The right that Occupy Wall Street was pushing for on the Brooklyn Bridge was freedom of assembly. (If you accept the premise, which is still debatable, that they marched deliberately onto the bridge roadway, they were pushing against the idea that automobiles rule the world.</snark>)
Williams can act with impunity because he is in the FoxNews studios instead on a sidewalk. Just a practical matter.
