How is everyone this fine and chilly morning? I’m having a busy week on the work front, kind of missing the summertime pace. And Finny has had anothe round of eczema flaring up, poor guy.
I think I mentioned in the the previous cafe that this particular web got knocked down on accident by a repair person who just wasn’t looking. He apologized to Madame for wrecking what he thought was a Halloween decoration. ‘Tis the season, I guess. Last night, Charlotte was back inspecting the damage, and constructing a new web. She seems to be downsizing, we noticed. Of course it is also getting a bit late in the year, so perhaps a mansion-sized web would not be so appropriate.
Plenty of sunshine here lately, and very windy today.
Below is the Fargo, ND, weather report.
It’s about the same here at the farm, but “only” 83F. Seems pretty toasty for Oct 5. We’ve not yet had a killing frost, although parts of the state did a couple of weeks ago. So several green peppers and some tomatoes are still maturing.
Fargo, North Dakota (Airport)
89 °F
Clear
Humidity: 20%
Dew Point: 43 °F
Wind: 24 mph from the South
Wind Gust: 34 mph
80ish here today, with lots of sunshine. The weather oracle says we should be getting several days of it. Hope its on its way to all you other frog ponders.
Green peppers are all we have left after the deer harvested the last of the tomatoes and summer squash. I’m sharing the fall persimmons with them, but don’t know who’s winning that one, since they show up after I’ve gone to bed. Sneaky devils!
I’m getting the “Busted! What is your online reputation?” one, interspersed with “Find qualified lawyers in your local area”. I didn’t do it – I swear!
Seems like we’re set for some more funky weather. It’s been a couple years, but I’ve been in Fargo before. The temps you’re describing seem more fitting of the summer season than early fall. Still feels summerish where I live too. I’m guessing shorter and potentially more extreme fall/winter seasons are the new normal.
It has been nice to have the warmer temps, however the last two days have been extremely windy, with one more scheduled for Friday, “expect gust to 60 mph”, and all out of the SE which is a very unusual direction for a 3 day wind storm, usually it’s NW, or N for those, but then nothing has been normal weather wise since this spring. (Practicing run-on sentences:)
I thought we might beat you to the cold weather since we’ve already had temps in the 30s and frost but it’s heated right back up into the 80s (which is very unusual for October).
The wind – that is one thing I didn’t miss about the plains once I moved away. I do get amused now when I hear some weather forecaster who tells his audience to hold onto their hats when we get sustained winds of 10 mph. Hell, that is but a light breeze. 🙂
There was film from about 20 years ago called L.A. Story, in which Steve Martin played a weather forecaster who would tape his forecasts something like a week in advance. At the time I was living in the area, and I couldn’t help but think how plausible that would be (although perhaps slightly less plausible now).
The predicted high today is 84 — which actually makes me unhappy. I don’t like hot weather (which I consider anything over 80 but for this time of year I’d say it’s more like 70). Forecast says it’ll be almost a week before we’re back down to normal temps in the 60s.
We had high winds last week but this week as been fair weather all round — warm temps, sunny skies, gentle breezes. Perfect bicycling weather for Jim, aka the retiree with lots of time to kill.
For those who are interested and/or have sufficiently long memories, I’ve noticed that the person behind the @DuctapeFatwa twitter memorial is active again. I wish I knew who was behind it, but whoever it is, many thanks. It’s hard to believe that a half decade has passed since Ductape Fatwa last graced the Internet Tubes with his presence. Perhaps he is gone, but hardly forgotten (especially among us serial blogwrecker types).
Janet’s very auspicious return has reminded me of an old (mostly) Usenet tradition of the hug: ((((name)))). Political blogs rarely seem like warm, humane places, and yet it seems crucial that we remind ourselves and each other that behind the clever screen names and the snark, there are living, breathing human beings behind the words. Thanks Janet for that reminder. And hugs to any who want or need them. 🙂
Groggy bottom = autocorrect error…kinda funny, though. 🙂

Oh well, groggy might be an appropriate description, given the time of day some of us get up;-)
Nice choice for a photo! I Love AndiF’s spiderweb pix.
Cool and, yes, more rain here. I’ve got what could be a fish pond in my yard. The b2 boy had eczema also. It worked itself out after a while.
Sorta webby.
Take two of my cake truffles and call me on Friday.
Gearing up for Occupy Portland this 6th and it will continue till who knows when.
Be safe everyone.
Those look delicious! You be safe out there too.
You too, Janet!
Yesterday I introduced you to Charlotte.
This was her web:
Some spider! Some photographer!
She’s very industrious. I hope her ambitions were rewarded.

Another great shot Andi.
Is the fotofair happening this Friday, and what’s the topic?
Thanks. The next flog is October 14 and the theme is “O” for October — anything connected in any way with the letter O or the month of October.
BTW, the flog is always the 2nd Friday of the month.
Gorgeous – makes me want to post a new cafe.
Well you can always put it aside and save it for a rainy day cafe. 🙂
Sunshine here! Woohoo!

That does seem warm for ND in October!
We just had our first sunny day in weeks, and it’s supposed to last through the weekend. Looking forward to some outdoor time. 🙂

Persimmon pudding — another sign that fall is really here. I like one bite and then I’m through for another year.
That’s how I am with the abundant figs down here.
You could send me your extras…we don’t have any here.
Why am I getting ads for incontinence pads on BT today? Do they know something about me that I don’t know yet?
I’m getting the “Busted! What is your online reputation?” one, interspersed with “Find qualified lawyers in your local area”. I didn’t do it – I swear!
Uh oh. Maybe it’s time we both cleared our browser cache. 🙂
I’m getting moving quotes and eBooks…do you think it knows I’m using my iPad?

Wow. You’re 20-30 degrees warmer than us. Enjoy it while it lasts!

I guess what we had was moving your way.
We had another howler today. 40 mph wind was probably the minimum for a few hours this afternoon. Thankfully it started to let up some about sundown.
Not much was accomplished outdoors the past three days. Now I have a bunch of mostly small branches to pick up before mowing.
Saturday is supposed to be normal, I think.
The wind – that is one thing I didn’t miss about the plains once I moved away. I do get amused now when I hear some weather forecaster who tells his audience to hold onto their hats when we get sustained winds of 10 mph. Hell, that is but a light breeze. 🙂
Yep, 10 mph, a mere zephyr!
When I lived for a while in N CA I thought the weather was so boringly I actually yearned for some “action”.

G’night all! Very late to the party.

Good point!
Not to mention the tossing that ball thing done in these parts some time ago.
Does this mean I need to shower more often?
🙂
Hope all’s going well out in Portland today.
Yep. Fortunately, with all our rain, water supplies are plentiful in our vicinity. 😉
So far. Let’s see what happens when gas drilling really starts up.
Gotta get going. Big doings up in Indy today.
Hope everybody has a fine day.
Happy Birthday, Mom!
Hope it was a great party!
It was an excellent party — she was just a giant grin the whole time.
I guess today is supposed to be Genocidal Maniac Day – or as it is more commonly known, Columbus Day.
