We are doing Silent Night tomorrow as a family act in our church. My son plays the piano (with kind of a march-tempo approach), I will sing in German and play the recorder, 1 daughter will sing in German, and my wife and other daughter in French. We’ll see how it goes….
Well, this wasn’t exactly how I wanted to spend Christmas Eve:
Rushed my cat of 11 years to the hospital. Had to put her down. Well, not had to, but I opted for it. Hey, it’s another part of life, and now my family and I can celebrate how awesome it was. It was a good decision to make; she was dehydrated and starved, and her liver was enlarging (our best guess, we don’t know what exactly was wrong). I was there by her side, mom couldn’t handle it. She laid her head in my hands, purred, and then I called the doctor for the injection. It was beautiful.
Sorry seabe. Been there many times and its always a very sad occasion. Wouldn’t have traded the joys of their antics and company for all the sadness at the end, though.
Yeah this was my second cat. This time it was much easier. Not sure if it’s because I’m older now or what.
Having researched it online now that it’s over, it seems she MAY have survived through a feeding tube and intensive care, but:
a. My family cannot afford it
b. Do I really want to put her through that?
c. The liver disease could have been caused by something else
Either way, I’m quite convinced it was fatty liver disease. It’s reversible, but hers seemed quite onset and showed signs of jaundice. About a 35% mortality rate from what I’ve read.
Hi, my Friend. Merry Christmas to you and yoru wife. Always will remember our time together in Memphis. hugs and the best of the season to you and yours.
I’m so sorry to hear this. It definitely sucks. We put down our dog of 13 yrs in August, and just brought home a cat from the shelter to replace her. (Once she’s settled in we’ll add a dog for her companion.) There’s always a thousand little reminders of the things you used to associate with a pet you’ve had that long. Just know that she had a good life and was loved, and your decision undoubtably forestalled a lot of suffering.
Started off the night watching Sound of Music and ending the night watching It’s A Wonderful Life. Been helping my aunt cook for tomorrow and gave my god baby her Christmas present early:
Merry Christmas/happy holidays to Boo, CG, Finn, Steven D, Steve M, and all the residents of greater metropolitan Frogistan. Thanks for all you do throughout the year. You folks are all wonderful.
sorry, seabe, about ur cat. Mine are 17 yr old and when it is time for them to go to kitty heaven, I will surely be so very sad. Merry Christmas to each of you here on the best blog online. What with my work nowdays, I just do not spend much time writing; however, I read you daily. Thank you all for a great year. hugs
Merry Christmas to you all from down under. We’re at a holiday house by the coast, and had a big family lunch with my partner’s extended family. Checked Santa’s progress on the NORAD website. Now in the late evening we’re battening down hatches for a possible storm:Melbourne was hit by hailstones the size of lemons this afternoon. A tropical cyclone is about to hit the northern Australian coast. Climate emergency, anyone?
Merry Christmas to you and your family, Booman. This will be a fun one with Finn. I hope we’ll see a video of him enjoying some of his Christmas loot.
Thanks again for your take on another jam-packed political year. Next year’s going to be a doozy. I’ll be right here, reading and posting. I’m glad you’re the one making the commentary. 😉

I’m sorry, seabe. Very few things suck more than that. Try to enjoy the day tomorrow as best you can.
We did that about 10 years ago. It is a very hard moment for a person who has the privilege to have a kitty for a time.
I have a great amount of sympathy for you, Seabe.

I’m sorry, but glad she isn’t suffering. I hope you all manage to find some joy in the holiday despite the loss.
