I’ve been daydreaming about lake vacations full of naps and books and good food and kayaking, so I thought AdniF’s picture above was very appropriate…
How is everyone? We’re enjoying more temperate and sunny weather here today. I hear Finny sang along to the Pee-Wee Herman theme song on the radio this morning – I think we need video of that. 🙂
Regrettably, given that someone attempted to out me last night (for now I will assume it was an innocent error on the other person’s behalf), I may have to make myself scarce for a while. Later.
I really hoped the offending comment would have been TR’d into “invisibility” by now. Regrettably that has not happened. I’ll check back at some point to see if that did eventually transpire. If so, it might be safe-ish sooner rather than later. Otherwise, farewell.
I’ve deleted it at the behest of the commenter, and in the interest of maintaining your anonymity, as I remember all too well how it felt when similar things have happened to me, innocent mistake or not.
That said, I would probably recommend not linking to things where you might be known by another name.
I fell asleep around 8:30 with Finny, woke up at 11:45, and can’t fall back to sleep now…looked at colleges for CBtY, read knitting blogs, checked FB and the weather…now I’m debating pulling out some work and getting a jump on tomorrow (that will probably put me right to sleep).
I must have eaten some thing that didn’t agree with me, because I got sick around midnight…finally got back to sleep, and Finny got up at 3 am demanding to watch Thomas the tank engine for he third night in a row…sure wish daddy would let me sleep in some day, but I guess I should give up on that idea after 2+ years of wishing.
I think I’m more tired than I was before the weekend started.
I hope that you’re feeling better now, CG. I awoke to the sounds of the b2 boy playing xbox live. He was talking to his friends over the internet link. It took me a while to figure out who he was talking to at 7:30 in the morning.
Actually, since we didn’t need to fight the “no Thomas until morning” battle lat night, it’s pretty good, with the exception of needing to go to the office.
How about you? Or is every week a delight now that you’re both retired? 🙂
It’s 51 right at this moment. It got all the way down to 50 last night. According to forecast the highs will be in the 50s all week. This is freaking-me-out weird.
I checked two of the feral daffodils spots this morning. One of them is already coming up (a couple of inches like yours); the other not. Even with this mild winter, I can’t help but think this won’t end well for the daffs that come up early.
We are, too. We’ll miss it even more if we have drought in October ’cause there’s no snow now. We’re quickly losing the little bit we have. Not much precip in the forecast any time soon, either.
The thought of your dafs showing their pretty faces now — wow.
Hope everyone’s having a good day anyhow! I’m going outside.
Speaking from sad experience, one does not truly appreciate the palmetto bug until it has skittered speedily up one’s leg underneath one’s jeans. A not-so-fond memory from south my Florida days.
I was exploring a weedy citrus grove and IIRC, my verbal reaction was more along the lines of #@&^*$!!! I wish I had had someone with a stopwatch there to time the jeans removal. Would have been fodder for a Guinness World Record. Later in my residency, I learned of their amazing flight capabilities.
About 20 years ago I had a dream that I was visiting some location in North Dakota in the middle of January, and there were palm trees. Even in my dream-like state I knew the mere idea of such a scene was daft. I doubt I’ll see it my lifetime, but, it is clear that even in our northernmost regions of the Lower 48, we’ll be able to grow plants and encounter animals that would have been unimaginable only a short time ago.
My friend Art who lives north of Fargo had palm trees, but he used to bring them in his shop for the winter. He probably could have left them out this winter!
The old timers say that the last winter this mild was ’57. (I either wasn’t alive then… or don’t recall that winter… take your pick…)
The first week of March in ’66 we had a three day blizzard that left drifts 12-16′ high in places. We were jumping off the roofs of buildings for the fun of it.
And there’s been historic blizzards in April, I think, ’41 that killed a bunch of people. So it ain’t over till it’s over, I guess.
So far though, I’ve not had to fire up the JD 4020 to blow any snow. X X cross fingers.
Personally I never felt especially comfortable there. At least with my particular political leanings, it’s hardly a suitable base for happy enemy blogging.
It has been a very mild winter so far. I have a business trip at the end of the month, which would ordinarily result in 6 inches of snow…we’ll see what happens. 🙂
Heh…thankful the boss will be out of the office the rest of the week…
I am dealing with boys club behavior at work, and it’s so over the top awful. What person in their right mind would openly refer to the testosterone party atmosphere he’s created in the office? TP being the exact term used.
Not even sure how to deal with that one.
On another, happier note, Finny is growing by leaps and bounds, and finally sleeping through the night. Yay! He’s such a sweetie, singing to himself while he plays.
I see we need a new cafe, I’ll post one in the morning after I have coffee.

Oh, definitely a video of that! As an encore, he could do “It’s a beautiful day in the neighborhood…” I always liked Mr. Rogers.
You mean the one that goes ‘get outta bed–there’ll be no more napping ..’ ?
😉
I wonder if the Playhouse is available on dvd? I think Finny would really dig it. We sure did!
And hello, folks! That’s a beautiful image up top–such warm colors! We’ve just got white, grey & brown up here.
Howdy, WW.
Ours have been all grey and brown. Almost no white — I don’t think we’ve had more than an inch on the ground at any one time. But boy have we got mud.
Maybe that means we’ll have it soon, too. It would be a nice change..
Good to see you!
A bunch more rain overnight — I’d love to send it your way along with the endlessly wet and muddy dogs. 🙂
How ’bout we just go for the virtual muddy dogs as per usual?
🙂
Apparently you’re going to get your wish, ww. Later today but rain not snow.
Hi, b2.
We’re getting that ‘wintry mix’ up here. Yippee.
We’ve got the moderate temps but ours has rain, rain, and some more rain attached to it.
Love to see that video.
Love to see a video of that!
(but with a rare appearance of the white stuff)

Saw that. Don’t stay away too long, DD.

It is much appreciated.
I hope you will be able to stay around here.
Always appreciate your POV, DD. Hope you’re not away too long.

Argh. This isn’t usually a problem for me.
Ugh, insomnia work is the worst. Hope you got some sleep instead.
Perhaps an FM-style nap later on ought to help.
Good advice ~ I’m shooting for one of those too.
Must be easy to take one now that the town is deep into its quiet season.
Options are good for choice of tables at the Hobnob, too;-)
We’re going to the Empty Bowl [LINK] dinner. Good food and a good deed. 🙂
Good deed report: soups were excellent which was good because we had to stand in line a long time to get them.
Glad lots of people showed up. We will be having a similar event here around April.

Bummer. I guess today’s picture and title are unfortunately perfect for you.

Everyday is Saturday when you’re retired. 🙂
Chilly windy and 30s here. I’ve been spoiled by 40s-50s weather, which it will be again tomorrow.
Its about 54 here right now, with 61 predicted for tomorrow. Our daffodils are up to 2″. Guess we should enjoy while it lasts.
That’s amazing. I’ll have to check some of our feral daffs tomorrow to see if any of them are starting to show.
It’s 51 right at this moment. It got all the way down to 50 last night. According to forecast the highs will be in the 50s all week. This is freaking-me-out weird.
This reminds me of south Florida winter. Do you suppose its time to put the garden in already?
You’d better stock up on Bt or your favorite insecticide. Without some hard freezes, it’s going to be a very buggy year.

It’s supposed to hit 60 here. Unbelievable.
I’m not a fan of huge amounts of snow or really cold temps but I find that I am missing having snow around.
We are, too. We’ll miss it even more if we have drought in October ’cause there’s no snow now. We’re quickly losing the little bit we have. Not much precip in the forecast any time soon, either.

We’ve had lots of rain here (and lots of mud).
The daffs aren’t flowering — just little sprouts of green above ground now.
Spring iz sprung. 60 and counting.

Snowdrops!
I walked in the woods in shorts today. 62°F on Feb. 1. This will probably be a year of two springs.
No doubt ~ waiting for The Big Chill to arrive.
I’d been reading about the record cold temps that were being experienced in Alaska. I’m sure that cold air can’t stay bottled up there forever.
Ours are up too! The weather here is freakishly warm this week.
Looks like the new plant hardiness zone map is out. Dr. Masters also briefly discusses species migration. Fascinating stuff.
That was really interesting (and a bit scary). Thanks for the link.
Order your Royal Palm driveway edgers early and avoid the rush. I wonder if the Palmetto will become the new Kudzu?
Followed by a influx of palmetto basket weavers selling their wares in Nashville?
Absolutely! Don’t you think Michael’s could use a little more tchatchke out front?
Along with palmettos come palmetto bugs. Maybe they’ll eat the invasive lady bugs.
Speaking from sad experience, one does not truly appreciate the palmetto bug until it has skittered speedily up one’s leg underneath one’s jeans. A not-so-fond memory from south my Florida days.
Eeek!
I’m crossing Florida off my list of retirement locations.
I saw that. Finally, I can plant the crepe myrtle that I’ve wanted.
Why, in a few short years, we could be drinking exotic concoctions from our very own citrus and coconut palm trees.

And here I was hoping I would be able to use the desire for crepe myrtle as my excuse to move south…
Heh. No travel is needed.
Banned/bojoed from dkos. I suppose that 7 years and 519 diaries weren’t good enough to warrant any explanation.
Wow. I am shocked. Can you email someone and ask (if you want to know, that is)?
I did that. I have been restored but with a message/warning that the cause is unknown. That DK4 bloatware continues to offer bugs.
My first thought was that you had been a naughty boy. Just a software thing, eh?
Glad you’re back in. From my few visits there, it looked to me like they could use all the decent, thoughtful people they can get.
Glad they restored you. DK 4 bloatware had me giggling, though (so true)!
.
Welcome
Be proud. I was very special, banned twice by Kos!
"But I will not let myself be reduced to silence."
Thanks, Oui. I have now been restored with only a very strange message to explain things.
Personally I never felt especially comfortable there. At least with my particular political leanings, it’s hardly a suitable base for happy enemy blogging.
I pretty much keep posts free of what would be considered radical. Enemy blogging will land one afoul of the crowd and admins.
Here it appears to at least be barely tolerated. 🙂
Pardon my DK naivete but what’s “enemy blogging”?

That’s a pretty scene! Winter, isn’t it? It’s hard to remember with all this 50s weather. 😉
It has been a very mild winter so far. I have a business trip at the end of the month, which would ordinarily result in 6 inches of snow…we’ll see what happens. 🙂
I think that might be the most snow we’ve had all winter. We had a chance of snow last night but none showed up.
Heh…thankful the boss will be out of the office the rest of the week…

As someone who worked from home from 1989 to 2011, I can’t empathize but I will sympathize. 🙂
We could use some new pictures of Finny — perfect thing for a new cafe.
