So, are you hearing normally apolitical people in your life make comments about the attack on birth control, the government-mandated vaginal probes, and the unhinged attacks on Sandra Fluke? Is your social media blowing up with outrage from normally quiet quarters? Have you overheard conversations on the street or at work? My answer is yes, to all of the above.

Can’t escape it. The Rep’s may have enjoyed Rush’s belligerence on their behalf before but he’s burying them this time round.
Most are connecting the dots that it’s not just Rush warring against women and even my most religious of friends resent being asked to choose between religion and women.
LOL.
is Altmire a bad candidate?
I was gonna ask the same thing: who are we rooting for? It’s not like this is a progressive challenger who just got a huge opening, it’s two reps fighting for a district.
yes. He is a very bad candidate. Horrible, actually.
Good for PA for caring whether a rep actually lives in the district. Wish this happened more often.
No. Way.

And the President shows no sign of letting the topic lie. Commencement at Barnard? Gee, I wonder what the speech will be about?
Who would have thought three months ago that the rights and dignity of women would become a top-tier political focus of 2012?
These fucking Republicans are crazy. Even the Salafists overseas think they need to chill out. And where is Mitt Romney?
Mitt Romney is politically tone-deaf:
Fail. +1 to Booman.
Yes, and I was going to say something about this in your previous post about 2012 being the year of the woman.
I have another twitter acct for my author persona, which has almost all women authors, all apolitical. I started it so I could keep from offending anyone with my political tweets. But now this feed has been ate up with the contraception issues for the last couple of weeks, really coming to a head with the Limbaugh issue.
To see an example of the outrage I’m seeing, this excellent piece is by an Army officer and author: http://www.jessicascott.net/blog/2012/03/i-am-not-a-slut/
Here’s the thing though: None of these women have generalized their disgust toward the GOP. They hate the political process that is resulting in their rights being taken away, they hate and mock the absurdity of it all, but I haven’t heard anyone rail against the GOP in general. (Possibly they don’t want to offend readers.) I’m worried that this will carry over into November, where instead of voting for Democrats they’ll either vote for women, or stay home. (And by “they” I mean pissed off women in general, not so much the specific women I’m talking about, who are articulate and smart and almost always vote.) I don’t know that the GOP itself is being harmed by this as much as we partisan Dems like to think
Which is why having three Dems vote for the Blunt bill was just awful. A pox on both their houses is the right response to this, in some women’s minds. That’s my worry, anyway.
thanks for the link and that was a great read. I see your concern about apathy but this comment: “fact that a group of middle aged men have returned to an era where they get to tell me what to do with my body: I’m a little pissed.”
Who else is to blame but the GOP? Also, young people who already a huge part of Obama’s base are not down with these attacks either. They like sex and do not want to get pregnant.
Thanks for the link. Good point about people not generalizing their disgust towards the GOP. The commenters were all applauding Jessica Scott, but no one put the blame where it should be put. I left a comment there pointing out that no mention was made of the people pushing the Limbaugh line of thinking – i.e., the GOP – but comments are moderated, so I don’t know if my comment will make it through.
it’s not this one thing, this time. an isolated incident.
it is a SERIES of ‘isolated incidents’ that go back to what I say:
if ‘isolated incidents’
are neither
isolated
nor
incidental
they form a PATTERN.
accept what the pattern tells you and RESPOND ACCORDINGLY.
the GOP, in rapid succession, has finally given a PATTERN that is so obvious, it’s smacking the most apolitical woman upside her head.
I hope it’s reached a tipping point.
What I find most bizarre/hilarious are the complaints by wingers that Dems have politicized this. It’s as clear sign as any that their politicizing of it has backfired.
ActuaIly…I am hearing “normally apolitical people in my life” make comments about the total asswipeness of the entire system. Dems, Rats, the works. Been hearing it for months. But I guess I must hang out in the wrong circles. I swear to God In Heaven Above, if one got on a subway in NYC and avoided the obvious suit-wearers, tourist types and ladies who lunch there would be a 90+% plurality regarding the fools in power on both sides of the aisle and in the White House.
Bet on it.
Obama? A traffic nuisance when he’s in town, an object of ridicule when he and his family of 1 percenters take a vacation in some tropic clime, when they eat in a expensive restaurant and spend enough to feed a family of five for a week or when Ms. Obama parades around in yet another high-fashion frock.
Man…Ron Paul oughta get the nod on frugality alone.
Really.
Later…

hehehe. I think it is rather possible you hang out in the wrong circles. Yes indeed.
When Mr. Paul starts to care about women’s reproductive rights, or gay rights, you give us all a call, eh? He could care less.
In the meantime I’ll take the fellow who vacations IN THE STATE IN WHICH HE WENT TO HIGH SCHOOL. Which has better weather than your state. Yes indeed I will.
Cruzy writes:
Yes you will.
And I’ll take the fellow who wants to cease using murder as an economic weapon.
The choice…if “choice”is truly the operative word…is yours. Yours and that of the many who agree with you. When the karmic chickens come home to roost, do not complain to me.
I’ll be too busy trying to survive the results of your mistakes.
Bet on it.

Social media, and every single women I know, and
also the men of women born I know are getting
increasingly riled about this. Could be Rushbos ‘Don Imus/Glen Beck’ moment.
Its pretty fun to go to the facebook pages of suspected advertisers on Rushbo, and the amazon product pages are read comments/reviews.
This looks like a category-5 shit storm , maybe even
category 6!
Bain capital owns Clear Channel -?
(Clear channel hosts the limbaugh show )
When will someone ask the Rommnitron 9000 about
the Bain-Clear Channel-Rushbo connection?

in his speech to the Senate on the impeachment of Clinton: “When they say ‘it’s not about sex’, you know that it’s about sex’.
Now they say it’s not about contraception, or birth control, or orgasms in or out of marriage. But it is. No one has the right to control someone else’s life.
It’s about contraception, and it’s about the hatred of women who are empowered and non-servile. It’s about the need to keep women as chattel.
It’s about contraception, of course it’s about contraception.
This. Exactly.
Too bad Issa on down never recognized that Fluke’s community handily represented alot of married women who were in college and needing birth control.
And then of course there’s the little item of Viagra still and again being covered.

Rush is reported to have apologized to Sandra Fluke.
Rush picked the wrong woman to attack with such crudity. I was listening this afternoon to BBC News on the radio as they interviewed her. She knows what she is doing, and this whole flap is going to be a major benefit for her. She IS a law student, after all, and was thought well enough for the Democrats to give her a platform from which to speak.
My Dad on several occasions pointed out that the Republicans won the Senate, the House and the Presidency in 1925, and they did such a rotten job that they lost the House in 1954. They had to wait a generation to regain it in 1994. Tail gunner Joe McCarthy did not come out of nowhere. There were a lot of conservatives like him and Nixon selling fear, anti-Communism and military prowess in order to get elected in those days.
Only the message regarding what to fear has changesd Today it’s feminazies and gays.
I guess Rush did not get the message. The NY Times reports a twitter from Lawrence O’Donnell saying “Lawyers wrote that apology”.
I especially like what Adele Stan, writing while Ed Kilgore takes the weekend off, said
