Why are the Republicans the only party that passes laws to suppress voter turnout? As a former ACORN County Coordinator, I can tell you the answer to that question. Black folks and college students, as well as the truly elderly, often lack state-issued voter identification cards, like driver’s licenses with a current address or a passport. Those groups tend to vote democratic. Blacks and college students vote overwhelmingly Democratic. The Republicans aren’t trying to suppress overall turnout. They are focused like a laser on suppressing Democratic votes. Now Pennsylvania has joined the club. They were able to do it because they control the state legislature and the governor’s office. For someone like me who has worked to empower our poorest communities of color, this is a body blow. I will seek revenge.

And word on this being challenged in court? I also notice Corbett’s approval ratings are taking a nose dive! Good job, Tommy!!
yes, read the linked article.
corbett could give a shit about his approval ratings. he doesn’t care if he’s a one-term or two-term governor.
He’s no different than a Mohammed Atta learning to fly a plane for the sole purpose of flying it into a building.
Pricey too.
We need a lot of revenge.
awful. didn’t realize the woman must listen to the doctor describe … i.e. that Texas doesn’t have the close your eyes strategy.
Every time they come after our right to vote we have to hit back hard. That is what we did here in Maine. It required tremendous effort and money but it was worth it. Go PA!! Restore your voting rights!!!
This fails even on its own terms.
A PA driver’s license doesn’t prove citizenship (PA doesn’t have “Real ID” yet), and it’s up to you to notify PennDOT and get your DL reissued if you move. I’m sure many people take their time, since there is hassle with little upside.
And a US Passport doesn’t have your home address to show what precinct you should vote in…you have to write it in yourself ‘in pencil’.
But a current utility bill? THAT has the address where you live RIGHT NOW.
Assholes.
If you’re not responsible enough to get an ID, then you sure as hell shouldn’t be able to vote. Grow up.
I really can’t understand your position on this…I want to buy a house…must show ID…I want to drive a car…must show ID…I want to open a bank account…must show ID…I want to get a job…must show ID…I want to board an airplane…must show ID…I Want to vote…oh, that’s different…why? So Dems can rig elections? I truly wonder about the motivation here.
Because we have a right to vote? Huh, quite a big difference.
Is the “right to vote” really more important than the right to own a house…oh, I forgot…you don’t believe in private property…let’s try this…does the almighty State have an interest on ensuring that people who vote are who they claim to be? Just curious.
Considering how high the penalty is for punishment if you’re caught voting when/where you shouldn’t for such little return, there’s no significant amount of voter fraud nor will there ever be such a thing. Why fix a problem that:
a.) Doesn’t exist
b.) if anything, more people should be voting
c.) With such stupid laws like Voter ID’s
If you’re interested in what you claim, follow any Scandinavian voting model: you’re automatically registered when you turn 18. You’re then given a number, and you receive this card in the mail before every election.
But no, you’d rather put onerous regulations on a protected right of the Constitution. Hmm, I wonder why…(could it be that when people vote, Democrats win?)
