Happy Saint Patrick’s Day, folks. From what I read, the bars around here decided to celebrate it last Saturday, too. A smart move, don’t you think? I have to run some errands this morning and in the early afternoon, but I have two requests. Read Steve’s post below and also read this story about the new abortion restrictions in Texas and how they impacted a couple who made the reluctant choice to terminate their pregnancy. Then, when you have finished reading these two stories, if you are still calm enough, please forward them along through your social networks so that your friends can learn about the real life consequences of the Republicans’ actions. Thank you, and see you later this afternoon.

Thanks Errol! I passed it along to all my friends here along with a St. Patrick’s Day greeting.
Ah…St. Patrick’s Day. I remember the spring of ’65 at Northern Illinois University and seeing, for the first time in my life (and as my grandmother had grimly warned me), people actually lying drunk in the gutter on St. Patrick’s Day.
The best thing about St. Patrick’s Day ’65 was being introduced to corned beef by one of the Jewish guys on my dorm floor whose grandfather or somebody owned a Chicago deli. Hadn’t had it before then, because my farmer father apparently thought corning perfectly good beef was to ruin it. Ah…memories…
The Texas story is truly sad and disgusting. The only thing that could have made this couple’s anguish any worse is if they’d had to run a gamut of right-to-lifers outside the PP clinic, as is sometimes the case here. Don’t know how the sanctimonious scum that dream these laws up can sleep at night.
