I hate to break it to poor Jennifer Rubin, but discussion of the War on Women will continue. It will continue for two reasons. First, the offhand comment of one Democratic pundit is nothing more than the offhand comment of one Democratic pundit. Second, both the GOP and women will continue to exist. Thus, the War on Women will continue and women will continue to notice.

You’re missing the point a bit-
The attack on women’s rights by a few in the GOP is being exploited politically by Obama/his campaign because polling already shows Romney’s weak support by women voters. That’s one reason the “discussion” will continue- it’s low hanging fruit; Obama would be stupid not to exploit it.
Various pundits claim Ricky dropped out to avoid a potential embarassing loss in his home state PA- he went out “on top” in order to continue to have a voice in the GOP.
Given the damage he did dragging the tired old cultural war to the forefront in his campaign- damage to the GOP in an election year, an election they supposedly desperately want to win- I have to wonder just how much of a voice the GOP wants him to have going foreward.
By “a few”?
Define “few” for me. Is that like 98% of elected officials? Or more?
exactly!!!
To clarify: I was referring to both the republican party and voters.
There are plenty of female moderate republican voters who use birth control, believe in pay equity, etc.
There are also plenty of Republican state legislators who’ve devoted great time and energy towards passing legislation that attacks and limits the rights and the power of women.
(Just, ya know, for the record.)
there are? where?
You’re implying there are NO female republican voters that use birth control?
Gimme a break, please.
mmm, I’m thinking Romney’s poll numbers reflected the war being waged since 2011 by Rep Gov’s and Congress’ choice of Bill priorities and then the non positions Romney has taken to counteract the anti women movement. Take a look at Romney’s “I wouldn’t have chosen those words” reaction to the Limbaugh scoffs at Sandra Fluke’s testimony. His numbers were ‘already low’ b
ecause the R’s as a block have been cutting down women’s rights and liberties.
I think the 45 Republican senators who voted for the Blunt amendment, or the presumptive Republican nominee who said “Planned Parenthood, we’re gonna get rid of that” count as more than “a few in the GOP.” But I agree, they are “low hanging fruit.”
Third, women can and are drawing their own conclusions without taking their cues from partisan hacks like Jennifer Rubin.
I’d go so far as to say that we have here a perfect test case for Rubin’s theory.
If the yawning gender gap is actually a result of those rascally Democrats executing a media strategy, with no actual anti-woman politics from the GOP driving it, and if the remarks of this Democratic lobbyist that I’ve never heard of actually do screw up that media strategy, then we should see that gender gap close.
But if not – if the gender gap continues to linger – then that would count as pretty good evidence that the War on Women isn’t actually figment of the public’s imagination, planted by brilliant Democratic media strategists.
No, no, no — it’s “Democrat media strategists”, silly.
exactly. And there’s always the option of looking at the new anti-woman legislation that repubs around the country are passing, not to mention state sponsored rape in VA. Pundits, and JRubin actually think women don’t notice?
Ultimately it’s not about talking heads trading quips on television. That’s what the GOP wants to change the subject to because that sidelines it and makes it irrelevant. But the “War on Women” is just a tag for things that really exsist such as attachs on Planned Parenthood, slut shaming bills and vaginal probes. All those still exsist even if The War on Women tag gets discontinued.
Honest question: who’s heard of Hilary Rosen before this flap? Or more pertinently, who’s heard of her in name only, but couldn’t tell me what she actually did or currently does?
I’ve never heard of her. Though a better way to turn this into a political winner if it’s still being brought up is to focus on the issue of choice, and why Republicans aren’t willing to give women a choice in the workplace (Lilly Ledbetter), their bodies (abortion, contraception), or having children by adoption (Bill Donahue’s disgusting comments).
As I’ve said, if anyone knows of Hilary Rosen before this, besides political junkies, it’s because of her tenure at the RIAA. And that’s not going to leave anyone with a favorable impression of her.
Even political junkies like us…I’ve NEVER heard of her.
Sad to say, but some of us (shamefacedly raising his hand) are big enough political junkies that we have heard of Rosen before.
It’s ok, I forgive you. I want to say I’ve heard the name before, but there are so many “Rosens” involved in politics that I could just be attaching the first name to the common last name. So maybe I have. But hearing of her and knowing who/what exactly she/did is/was are different things 🙂
I knew who Rosen was before all of this
I think it’s time for Alito’s wife to cry, thereby demonstrating that all this talk of a Repub War on Women is a bunch of dem bullies ganging up on Moms like Ann Romney and Mrs Alito. and what about the caterpillars? what do they say?
the GOP is accused of having a WAR ON WOMEN
because IT’S HAVING A WAR ON WOMEN.
it’s not something that’s been ‘ imagined’.
and, Rubin wrote some bullshyt that Willard would have to seal the deal with women himself, by talking about all the family friendly policies he put in place while at Bain..
but, guess what Rubin…
I guess he didn’t put any in place, because it was the club by which Ted Kennedy clubbed his ass with women back in 1994.
here’s an article about how Kennedy stomped Willard with women in 1994
