This is kind of a minor point but ever since Senator Olympia Snowe of Maine announced that she won’t seek another term, she has started to vote ‘present‘ a lot. This is not something I’ve noticed her do before. It’s like now that she is liberated from having to worry about things like getting primaried or getting reelected in the general or being punished by Mitch McConnell, she is exercising her newfound freedom by refusing to take a side. She doesn’t vote with her caucus, but she still refuses to vote against them. She’s like Patty Hearst, or something.
I find it perplexing and more than a little pathetic.
Tonight, she did it twice. First she voted ‘present’ on Lamar Alexander’s (R-TN) substitution amendment and then she did it again on Majority Leader Harry Reid’s bill to extend low-interest rate college loans.
She’s like Patty Heart, or something.
Do you mean Patty Hearst?
And if so, be glad she didn’t buy Roland’s Thompson gun
Yes, that was a typo. My eyesight is failing me at 42.
It doesn’t look like her vote would have mattered in any of those so I suppose she’s making her point without making it an overt F U. I’d be interested in seeing how she’d vote on a matter where her vote would make the difference.
Well she did vote to move healthcare reform out of the finance committee and she kept it alive on the finance committee and that mattered.
You can make yourself crazy trying to figure out what motivates Collins and Snowe.
that’s why I’m glad to see her ass GONE.
fuck her
My sentiments exactly. I hates me some Blue elephant shit. All this CRAP about moderate republicans and bullshit about this and that. She never did a single thing of value in the Senate.
Clown gonna clown. ‘Nuff said.
My understanding about the vote on student loans is that she has a conflict because of her husband’s involvement in Educational Management Corporation. This corp is the subject of a lawsuit by 11 states and the federal government.
There is some speculation about this being the real reason for her retirement.
