I don’t read Markos’s hate mail every week. But this week’s hate mail is the funniest I have seen. Friggin’ hilarious, from start to finish. I don’t get a whole lot of hate mail. I certainly don’t get the kind that constantly questions my sexuality. I have a couple of grammar nazis who torment me, but I don’t mind because I actually learn something and become a better writer. I get a decent amount of emails that are really just comments from right-wingers who didn’t want to create an account. Their comments are often painfully stupid, but personal attacks are infrequent. I get much more fan mail or just notes of support and agreement. Obviously, the Great Orange Satan is a much bigger blog with a higher profile, so that probably explains why Markos is inundated with hate mail while I am not. But, you know, I think there is a whole lot less stupid on this site, no matter the source. We have a great comments section, for example. Always have.

A lot of it is really stupid.
But not all.
Like this one:
Not so dumb at all.
As in:
“If you are going to come on here and say that Romney is the biggest liar in presidential history then you need to put Obama’s name right next to it.”
“If you want to be a responsible journalist then you need to cite both sides of EVERY story….It is people like you who are dividing this country and creating hate and dissention.”
“It’s simple. You are just a puppet for the democratic party.”
Sounds ’bout right to me…

Someone help me: I really can’t understand how the Republican constituency is made up. Let’s assume approximately 50% of voters select Republicans. I would start by breaking this number into 2 groups: half are active participants in the political process, and the other half are low- information voters who hold some vague conservative values.
10%-20% of all voters are bigoted-religious extremists, who have a happy home in the Republican Party. Another 10% or so are just plain greedy and don’t mind the bigots. This is the Republican base, and we saw it in plain sight during the primaries.
The rest don’t really pay that much attention to what Republicans actually do, they just have some vague value called “personal responsibility”, which is really a lite version of greedy religious extremism (trickle-down voodoo economics, for example), and some latent tendencies toward bigotry. My guess is this: 25-30% of all voters are these low-information voters.
Booman, this place is way better than DK. If you’re not getting enough hate mail to keep you amused, I’m sure we can all chip in to send some your way.
Here, I’ll make the first contribution. “Your mother was a hamster and your father smelled of elderberry!”
that was one of the best series of hatemail I’ve seen there. excellent.
Not to diminish the goodness of the front page writing, Boo, but yeah, the community of minimal stupid you’ve built here is what makes this joint special. Somehow you’ve headed up development of a real community where intelligence, thoughtfulness, and civility are the norm. Plus the occasional driveby to liven things up a bit. I don’t know of an site that has the same kind of feel. Do you ever wonder just what made it develop this way?
