Sens. Joe Lieberman of Connecticut and Jim Webb of Virginia are both retiring from the Senate. They need new jobs. Maybe that is why they are the only two members of the Senate Democratic Caucus to vote against extending the Bush tax cuts for only the bottom 98% of the population. The people doing the hiring of ex-senators are mostly in that top 2% category. I wonder if they’ll put this vote on their résumés.

May they itch in places they can’t scratch.
They probably both believe the wealthy are better people. LIEberman certainly does.
Webb has been such a disappointment.
Yes!
Only if one forgets who he beat. But Virginia voters just may re-install George Allen so remind us how bad Webb’s predecessor/successor was/is.
As Harry Truman said, “Given a choice between a real Republican and a Democrat that acts like a Republican, the voters will take the real Republican.”
Except Webb beat Allen. And occasionally he was very surprising.
Ah, but Webb acted like a Democrat when he was campaigning.
Mustn’t forget that Webb is actually smart and Allen is dumb like GWB and Rick Perry.
Allen seems like he would have been a more capable Rick Perry.
Elmer Fudd would be a more capable Rick Perry.
Webb isn’t retiring because DFH’s were being a PITA. Also, too, you can’t blame anyone but the corrupt Virginia Democratic Party(look who their head honcho is) and the DSCC for Tim Kaine.
It’s been clear that Lieberman is a scumbag for a long time, but I’m really disappointed by Webb.
This is a guy who was writing editorials about income inequality in 2006.
What happened?
Try 2011-2012. Remember when he criticized the president earlier about not addressing this issue — in a publication, no less. I don’t feel like looking, but a lot of liberal critics of the president for citing it.
Plus:
Also, I am not disappointed in Webb. Well, I am. However, he’s my Senator, and I met him a few times in 2006. I didn’t like him. It was right when I was getting into politics, actually. He rubbed me the wrong way.
for == were.
I meant 2006. Here are some awesome wingnut tears about “old-school leftist” Jim Webb:

What happened to that guy?
Wasn’t he a Republican when he was in the service?
Secretary of the Navy under Ronald Reagan.
He says he was originally a Democrat, and basically bought into the false notion that DFH’s despised the returning servicemen/women returning from Vietnam. He bolted the GOP around the time of the Iraq war. He actually wrote an op-ed against the Iraq war in the Kaplan Test Prep Post of all things.
The Senate’s :::coughing::: loss will by the lobbyism’s gain. Or something.
they’re just doing what all politicians do…looking out for number one…fuck everyone else.
more than adequate reason to consider them both assholes.
I absolutely cannot imagine either of these corporate whores will have any problem expanding their wealth enormously (with or without performing any actual work) once out of the Senate. Regardless of any votes they take now. Their body of work – Lieberman especially, but also Webb – speaks for itself
I never could be too disappointed in Webb, seeing as he came along to get us a badly needed Senate seat at a crucial moment, and we knew who we were dancing with.
Liebermann, as much as I despise him, was a fairly consistent moderate dem until he started toying with the Zell Miller wing of the party.
Neither one will disappoint me as much as Chris Dodd has, no matter where they end up. But that’s largely a matter of expectation at this point.
