Dick Cheney was willing to go on the record that picking Sarah Palin as a running mate was a mistake.
“That one,” Cheney said, “I don’t think was well handled.”
“The test to get on that small list has to be, ‘Is this person capable of being president of the United States?’”
Cheney believes Sarah Palin failed that test.
“I like Governor Palin. I’ve met her. I know her. She – attractive candidate. But based on her background, she’d only been governor for, what, two years. I don’t think she passed that test…of being ready to take over. And I think that was a mistake.”
Frankly, Sarah Palin could be governor for 20 years and she still wouldn’t be ready to take over. My only problem with Cheney’s remarks is that he also flubbed the vetting of vice-presidential candidates when he gave up and picked himself. His advice to the president was so universally disastrous that Bush no longer listened to him at all in his second term. For four years, Dick Cheney was the most powerful vice-president in history. He was also the worst vice-president in history. When it comes to picking a running mate, Cheney should just shut his face.
Why is he even talking? Why is anyone talking to him?

Worse then the guy who killed the Secretary of the Treasury?
Yes, Dick Cheney was a worse Vice President than the guy who shot and killed the Secretary of the Treasury.
Worse than Agnew.
I’ve got my own history with VP Darth Cheney (good whisky though), but I believe Palin would have even been more disastrous. She either would have talked McCain into war with China and Russia or turned the VP’s office into a reality TV show. Not sure which frightens me more.

Great stuff, as always. You almost beat Martin to the pond, he barely got user ID #4. LOL
"But I will not let myself be reduced to silence."
My plan was slightly different. Take all the hashish from Afghanistan and airdrop it on Iraq. Insurgency over.
(good whisky though)
Sure, but the democracy was a disaster, and the sexy was nonexistent.
Has the “grifter” she wolf responded yet?
If she hasn’t yet, you can bet she will. Probably via Twitter. Should be good fun.
That would exclude virtually the entire Republican party.
“Virtually”???
First, although I think Cheney is one of the evilest people who ever lived I’ll say that he was tempering his statement in order to keep peace with his allies who loved Palin. I think he, too, knows Palin was a lot worse than just being a bit inexperienced, and the first words he spoke are consistent with that.
Second, he really controlled the White House through November 2006. After they lost Congress in that election Bush literally fired Rove and effectively defanged Cheney. Bush quietly turned control of the White House over to the people his Dad would have chosen and around foreign policy circles it quickly became obvious that the White House had shifted to the more rational approach of the first George Bush.
