Joan Walsh and Brian Beutler begin the daunting job of detailing the stunningly brazen lies Paul Ryan told during his convention speech last night.

Folks have been detailing the lies. just gotta keep on it
If you haven’t yet, you’ll be hearing soon that even a Fox News contributor tore the speech up pretty good over the lying on the foxnews.com website. Might be the last article she contributes there, and maybe curtains for whatever editor decided to run it, but it’s there.
Does it even matter anymore? We’re approaching a nadir of epic proportions in terms of pols lying and not even caring about it. They’re basicaly saying, “Yeah, we’re guilty. What are you going to do about it?”
Keep on keeping on, I guess, but it won’t stop Blitzer and Burnett from getting starbursts.
To me, this is the essence of what the Bush (II) administration began. “No controlling authority.” We break the laws, and you’re going to stand there in the reality-based community with your finger up your nose because there’s not a damn thing you can do about it.
That was fine enough when they were in office, but now we’re seeing that they can do the same thing with basic facts. Next thing you know, Chris Christie is going to start levitating, you know, just to stick it to the Law of Gravity.
For me, the heart of your comment is the “keep on keeping on”. It’s been over a decade (picking the Bush-Gore campaign) that the left has been slowly, painfully and painstakingly building the political space to call Republican lies what they are. Just the fact that Blitzer’s first reaction to Ryan’s speech included an aside that the fact-checkers would have a lot to say about it is a sign of progress.
There’s even, as pointed out above, a FoxNews column by a liberal contributor who calls Ryan out for his lies.
There will be plenty of time for evaluation after Election Day. For now, can we focus on hammering away at the Romney-Ryan ticket until their veneer cracks and is exposed for enough citizens to choose to re-elect Pres. Obama?
This is a seminal point for the national media. It could not be more plain that this is their “come to Jesus moment” on whether or not they will actually do their job.
My confidence level is not very high.
No moral person could vote for Romney/Ryan given the outright lies. Just keep repeating it, and it will stick.
Thanks for this as this is what I’ve been saying to all and sundry. Between now and November I hope I work up the cojones necessary to repeat this to many of the GOP/conservative lovers who surround me.
And it is to be devoutly hoped that a primary slot at the DNC convention will be afforded to a rebuttal of his speech, point-by-point, and delivered in good old populist barnburner style. Suggestions? Should that be Biden’s task? I sorta think there should also be someone else, perhaps one whose presence at the convention might not be expected. You know, our own extra special secret speaker.
Lies of Mass Destruction.
Be worried, Progs, be very worried.
Disgusted? Yes. Worried? No, thanks.
You see, “no moral person could vote for Romney/Ryan given the outright lies”, and Americans are moral people.
It is simultaneously entertaining and nauseating to see The National Review’s attempt at fact-checking the fact-checkers.
