Appearing on a Sunday morning talk show for the one billionth time, Sen. John McCain made one of the stupidest accusations since Dan Burton shot a watermelon in his backyard.
Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) said Sunday that the Obama administration’s handling of the situation in Libya is either the worst cover-up he has ever seen or the kind of incompetence that should disqualify the president from serving as commander in chief.
“This tragedy turned into a debacle and massive coverup or massive incompetence in Libya is having an effect on the voters because of their view of the commander in chief,” McCain said on CBS’s “Face the Nation.” “And it is now the worst coverup or incompetence that I have ever observed in my life.”
Two words: Keating 5.
On November 7th, I will drink John McCain’s tears with a splash of vermouth and two blue cheese-stuffed olives.
One acronym: WMD
One decision: Palin
“Bomb, bomb, bomb Iran.”
Wow. He’s still angry about that damage to his lawn.
Still cannot STAND that he got beaten by a black man, I see.
McCain never had any good judgment. Study his military career and all his plane crashes. Yes, unlike the vast majority of his GOP peers he actually joined the military and went to Vietnam, but that too shows he’s never had any good judgment.
He’s also been a kept man most of his adult life, – what with crashing those planes, he’s not really the dominant white male of his fantasy life or pr for that matter
He’s also been a kept man most of his adult life, – …
His father and grandfather were admirals in the Navy. Highly respected men in fact. So he’s been more then a kept man. His ass as been coddled since birth pretty much.
Good point about his father and grandfather. That’s not what I meant though, but it makes the impact on him worse – I mean kept by his wife, so he’s never earned his own way. He presents himself as in the tradition of his father and grandfather, but the reality is he’s a reckless and irresponsible
Obama’s opponents, left and right, are flailing about in various stages of grief.
I used to reserve at least some respect for conservatives as being worthy of a civil discussion. When John McCain decided to stir the pot of racist crazy for political gain he completely lost any semblance of respect from me whatsoever. His actions and his party’s embrace of the crazy instead of marginalizing them makes our country not only dangerous to ourselves but dangerous to the entire world. I will therefore sing to John McCain a simple hymn for anything he has to say on any subject. Him, Him, Fuck Him.
Jeebus, this is what the Heroic Straight Talk Express (haha) has degenerated into? Grampaw Goober? “The worst crowd I ever saw!” “The worst thunderstorm in my life!” “The worst traffic I’ve ever seen!” “The worst creamed spinach they ever served!” Yes, indeed, Gramps, time for your suppository, this won’t hurt a bit…you’ll feel much better!
So apparently our Beltwayer TV elites sat there and listened to this absolute steaming twaddle and didn’t challenge it? Bengazi–Bengazi!–is the worst gub’mint “cover-up” and the worst “incompetence” Gramps McFool has ever observed in his life? The mind boggles at such childish and silly propagandistic ranting. One needn’t even go back into the last century to demolish the claim, and McFool is what–78 years old? And a victim of an entire war of incompetence, Vietnam? A child of Watergate? But, but, but, Bengazi!
I guess this Braindead Bengazi Bullshit is clearly the last ditch effort of KKKarl Rover and the Rightwing Noise Machine. A “cover-up” of 10 days. “Incompetence” (of the CIA?) in not arriving at an intelligence conclusion for a couple weeks. The question is, does this tripe have traction with its intended audience, the low info voter—who considers himself an “expert” on every topic, even if he can’t state one accurate fact about it.
He’s long (always?) been a know-nothing windbag. Never understood why so few people noticed that when his schtick got him a bus and a seat on the Sunday gaggle-thons.
So, to put in in perspective, during the 1998-9 impeachment debacle McCain was the Honest Republican that the nighttime and Sunday new shows loved to bring on to talk common sense. And it was pretty easy then – the GOP was going crazy and any Republican who sounded at all moderate was a good guest to book on shows.
Hell, a lot of us liked having McCain on those shows – he sounded reasonable given the topics at the time.
Before that period no one paid any attention to him except for the Keating 5. During that period he became very popular with the press because he was the Republican who treated the press nicely. The other Republican was Bush, who treated the press like shit. The reason the press cowed to Bush was fear of Rove – and he was brutal. The press LOVED piling on Bush after Rove was fired in December 2006.
On that last point, no one wants to mention it because it makes you seem like a conspiracy theorist. But in Bush’s first year as President the National Enquirer published a TON of articles with photos about the Bush daughters’ habits of getting falling-down-drunk in public. The first person killed in the Anthrax attacks in late 2001 was Robert Stevens – the National Enquirer photo editor who paid for those photos. After that no more such photos were published although the Bush daughters reportedly continued their behavior. No one talks about this openly – but all those facts are stated, I just googled them to be sure.
As McCain voted “guilty” to both charges against Clinton in the Senate, how did that make him an “honest Republican?” At that time, only Chafee, Jeffords, Roth and Snoww had any legitimate claim to being “honest Republicans.” Spector, as was his wont, wussed out and a couple others split on the charges. Who cares if someone doesn’t sound like a raving loon if they are on board with what the loons support?
Reporters that elevated McCain for no reason other than he gave them the time of day demonstrated that they were dumber than the not-so-smart guy that manipulated them.
The anthrax mailing to the Enquirer’s office remains one of those curious events. Tend to doubt that Stevens was the target – he didn’t even work for the Enquirer. And there were unflattering reports on the Bush daughters after that event. However, AMI wasn’t exactly on board with Bush. Have remember that there were five anthrax laced letters sent to news organizations and likely mailed the same day, but for some reason only the one sent to AMI was deadly and led to the closing of the office due to contamination. Black ops or domestic terrorism? Not likely we’ll ever know — and can just chalk it up to one more convenient event for the rightwing in this country.
Meanwhile, OFA knocked on one million doors in VA yesterday!
Seriously? One million in one day?
nalbar
Yes, one million doors in VA in one day, Saturday. GOTV!
Yeah, I turned on the TV, heard that bit, and changed the channel. No desire to hear more.
…the worst coverup or incompetence that I have ever observed in my life.”
Wow, I’m sure it was a sight to behold when Bob Schieffer jumped right into his shit and reminded McCain about the hypocrisy and stupidity of his remarks. He did that right??? I mean, he’s a hard-nosed, veteran journalist, right??? With no patience for lying bullshit???
That McCain cannot to this day recognize that he is angry at himself, not Obama, for relying on an inept Party to destroy his own legacy would be sad if it weren’t that we all had to still listen to him.
Among world players, John McCain is pretty small potatoes. Think Eddie Gaedel, the guy with the one and a half inch strike zone, an easy walk but then you want somebody else to do the running.
That was the best the Republicans could come up with.
Romney, ditto.
Yet half the country lines up behind these bozos.
Palin sank McCain, but Ryan seems to have a real shot at running the country (yes, think about that), given only two twists of fate.
Last I looked, fate was a twisty son-of-a-gun.
It really is appalling that this vicious, senile old ass-clown is allowed to act-out on national TV like an enraged old male chimp throwing his feces at one and all. Not to mention the utter absurdity the comment’s substance. I mean, after Iraq and the non-existent WMD, and tens-of-thousands of dead and maimed on all sides, THIS, according to McSenile, is “the worst coverup or incompetence that I have ever observed in my life.” And Schieffer didn’t call him on this?!
It’s bad enough that this idiot still gets the air time. he does. It’s even worse that the media hosting his antics doesn’t call him on his bullsh*t.
Ditto. Our media appear to be spineless.
YAWN! . . . McWho?
Go Falcons!
We don’t need no stinkin’ GOTV!
I believe in voting on Election Day…like the Constitution says…
Millions of Americans are ready to depose this dictator…I mean President…
Watch November 6th…second American Revolution!!!
Who are you really trying to convince?
Us?
I don’t think it’s us.
Here. Have a Donut.

Maybe it will help soak up the booze.
What a drama queen.
Oh my God it’s the worstest coverup ever in the history of ever!
You know what I think is having an effect on voters? The way the Republicans freak the hell out over everything, grotesquely out of proportion to its actual significance.
That is not a personality trait I want to see in a Commander in Chief.
You know what I think is having an effect on voters? The way the Republicans freak the hell out over everything, grotesquely out of proportion to its actual significance.
I keep thinking they’re going to reach the breaking point with the public’s capacity to put up with their nonsense, but I don’t see much evidence of it so far. But I’m not in the thick of things like most of the rest of you. I hope people reach the limits of their patience soon.
You know, I’m starting to wonder about the effect on voters of this Bengazi shit by Repubs like McStooge.
Many commenters here have pointed out that the Rmoney Rise in the polls occurred BEFORE the (supposed) Debate Debacle—seemingly around Sept 24th or so. Wouldn’t this be about the time that Obama acknowledged that an extremist group appeared to be behind Bengazi? That it was a terror attack on the 9/11 anniversary? I didn’t watch the corporate press and Rightwing Noise Machine much during that crucial week (was backpacking in the wilderness), but was this given huge coverage at the time?
If Bishop Rmoney started his “rise” the week before the debate, there had to be some reason for it. I haven’t seen any reasons given out. This Braindead Bengazi Bullshit seems the only likely candidate.
And if that is the case, that means our Patriotic Repubs attacked a Dem prez in the immediate wake of deadly terror attack on Americans and were rewarded for it, while no Dems EVER attacked Cheney for being so obviously asleep at the 9/11 switch in its aftermath. To do so was said to be treason. Your lib’rul media!
By contemporary accounts the Libya attacks hurt Romney. There was movement in the polls pre-debate, but that had been expected by Silver’s model as the Democratic convention bounce receded.
I think it really was the debate – not just the debate itself but the widespread reaction from both sides. As others have noted, the GOP candidate could blubber incoherently for 90 minutes and the reich wing hacks would still pronounce him the winner, while Andrew Sullivan, fresh off his ridiculous Obama-as-Reagun-in-his-second-term Newsweek cover story, went overboard the other way and decided Obama had lost the election.
Of course, Sullivan isn’t a lefty, but he’s gay and an Obama supporter so that was close enough for the MSM to run Romney-killed-Obama stories 24×7 for a week.
one factor mentioned was Obama’s post convention surge was wearing off
You know what this means? It means the Tea Partiers will not vote for Obama!
