Probably Sage dressing. My wife likes to put Mandarin oranges and dried cranberries in it. It’s OK, but I prefer it like my Mom made without the fruit. (Envisioning telling my wife that I prefer Mom’s cooking. Suppressing image.)
I hope Romney is eating Crow. I know it’s not Humble Pie.
His talk about vote turnout being merely a “technical” issue ignores something: when the Democrats get better turnout, it means that the electorate is more representative of American public opinion as a whole. It means that minority groups and poor people aren’t as underrepresented as they have usually been. While the accomplishment of good turnout is a tactical matter with litter relations to ideas, having a philosophy and a policy platform that is more popular among the general public is all about substance and ideas.
Even so, his victory is being downgraded by the rush to portray the election less as a triumph for him and more as a possibly fatal defeat for the Republicans.
How is that a downgrade?
Look, I like Barack Obama. I like him a lot. A triumph for him is a very nice thing.
But a possibly fatal defeat for the Republicans would be the greatest thing in the world. Someone gets elected every four years, but dealing a possibly fatal defeat to the Republicans is big, historic stuff.
Downgrade? Mr. Podhoertz, you just made my Thanksgiving!
Also, I love the part where he whines that Obama won Ohio the wrong way, because he did poorly with white working class voters. “Obama’s auto bailout message wasn’t the reason he won Ohio! He won it for totally different reasons!” Uh…ok. In my face, I guess.
Despite conventional wisdom, make the pie early and chill it way down, try the freezer just until the edges begin to ice over, then goes the ice cream on top.
I cook up fresh green beans until all the healthy is out of them. 😉 I fry bacon and drain it when it’s crisp, then sautee chopped onions and garlic in the bacon grease and pour it all over the beans in the pot. Add water to cover, season with salt and pepper, cook until soft and Melt-in-your-mouth delicious.
My mom says those beans will taste like Heaven, because you’ve cooked the hell out of them.
This year I experimented with buttered roast squash sweetened with alittle maple maple syrup, and mixed with a handful of pomegranate seeds and toasted pine nuts. It was pretty damn tasty, if I do say so myself.
I don’t like Thanksgiving food all that much. But dad makes this chipoltle mashed sweet potatoes dish that’s really good.
Also, it’s that time of year again:
That sounds good. I need more potassium in my diet (sodium-sensitive). I’d appreciate it if you could the recipe.
“If you could get the recipe” And post it here, of course.

Oh, and broccoli casserole.
My favorite side dish is salty, bitter tears of Republican defeat. With marshmallow topping.
served cold and congealed.
It doesn’t matter what they say, it only matters how it sounds.
It doesn’t matter if the content is a complete reversal from yesterday.
It’s only cheerleading, and relies entirely on enthusiasm. Remember what happens when the truth occasionally leaks out … nobody likes it.
Pie and ice cream. Not exactly a side dish, but hard to beat. Be sure to make enough so there’s some left over for breakfast in the morning.
Close enough.
Despite conventional wisdom, make the pie early and chill it way down, try the freezer just until the edges begin to ice over, then goes the ice cream on top.
You’ll need warmth afterwards from other sources.

Sounds like mt grandma’s tried and true Eastern Kentucky method. Minus the garlic. When you think you’ve cooked them too long, cook one more hour.
And your mom is right. They will taste like heaven.

Sounds good. Winter squash I presume. Just go easy on the butter and syrup and it is very healthy.
I take it back.
Best side dish: moar turkee.
Mashed potatoes.
