You know you will enjoy an article that begins like this:
Disarray is a word much overused in politics. But it barely begins to describe the current state of chaos and incoherence as Republicans come to terms with electoral defeat and try to regroup against a year-end deadline to avert a fiscal crisis.
Too bad that the country is collateral damage.
I’d enjoy it a lot more if Orange Julius was Minority Leader, and we had about 64 members in the Senate.
pfft. way funner to “teach Obama a lesson”.
Am I the only person who, upon seeing a photo of Boehner and Cantor together, is immediately reminded of Beavis and Butthead? because it’s starting to worry me.
Does Cantor have his hand behind Boehner’s back?
Probably in his pocket, lifting his wallet.
Seriously, when was the last rational thing they did?
David Dayen makes the point that this admission from the Republican leadership clearly shows that they are not interested at all in either the deficit or the debt for their own sake–fear of the bond traders, la-da, la-da, la-da. The goal is cutting entitlements through negotiation in which Democrats do the cutting and Republicans posture as protectors.
It does not look like Wall Street will oblige their desire for a crash. The market indexes are already discounted for the sequester and tax increases happening. It would not be surprising to see the market drop slightly on the first day of trading in the New Year and reverse itself on the story that the deficit will be lower. Market stories are crazy like that.
I’m glad the Village is no longer covering up the chaos in the GOP. That will make it harder for Boehner to spin things his way, especially given the Hobson’s Choice deal from the President that he faces when he comes back. With the clock ticking at T-4 days.
