Actual headline today from the Associated Press:
Can Obama keep warmer inauguration weather pledge?
This is journalism? (Rhetorical question – we stopped having effective news coverage decades ago). The Onion couldn’t come up with anything that beats the AP’s own self-parody. By the way, don’t bother reading the article. It will only annoy the shit out of you that a supposedly major news gathering organization wasted time on something so frivolous.
Not to gainsay your general criticism of the fourth estate, but in this case it didn’t annoy the shit out of me.
It’s called humor. Lighten up, man.
I don’t think the AP’s science writer was attempting comedy.
Even if what the AP was trying was for light-hearted humor, it’s written straight, and they know perfectly well (as any journalist does) that some people are missing the gene that alerts them to sarcasm, irony, etc. Those readers will truly believe that Obama made a serious promise, and – given that many of the same people already are infected with the Wingnut Virus – they’ll either rail against Obama for being such an uppity tyrant that he thinks he can control the weather, or rant that he’s broken yet another “promise.” I’m sure Hitler figures somehow, too.
The AP’s wire copy goes out to hundreds of eviscerated local papers around the country, and I promise you each of them has plenty of readers like this among their aging, remaining audience.
Oh, and don’t forget: the fact that it will be cold in Washington – again – proves once and for all that global warming is a gigantic hoax. Serves Obama right.

This is a pretty funny story to be preceded by Boo’s “Serious Questions” re: PB&J vs tuna
We are drowning in media stupid and you choose this little dribble for your invective? You should come to Illinois and hear them “analyze” the “pension crisis” if you want explosive aneurism event. Or pretty much anything else.
The AP guy was just reaching for a head/lead to make the DC weather outlook seem interesting. Fail, but so what. Jeez.
well, it’s beginning to look like all the print media is the Onion, intentionally or not. Trouble is, the Onion uses real wit to write while the wannabees flap right on by.
See Doonesbury from Monday…
