Might the Senate Democrats still do something about the filibuster?
Senate Democratic leaders have engaged in preliminary discussions about how to address Republican procedural obstruction, according to a senior Democratic aide, reflecting an awareness that key administration and judicial vacancies might never be filled, and that a watered-down rules reform deal the parties struck early this Congress has failed.
Doesn’t look like it.
The source said conversations are still too preliminary for Democrats to lay out publicly potential avenues of recourse just yet. And the last thing leaders want is to create the expectation that they will change the filibuster rules in the middle of the current Senate session.
Zzzzz.
This is what happens when you bring a softball to a knife fight.
Somebody should remind Carl Levin that Detroit is under Emergency Manager rule now and if Pontiac is any model, every public asset of the city will be sold off to Snyder cronies and leased back to the taxpayer. At that point voting is irrelevant.
Oh, that’s right. Carl has already bailed. Wonder what cushy job he goes to next?
Probably working for some Snyder crony. Did you see where Scott Brown is going? Goldman Sachs.
thanks for reminding m to call harry reid, the dunce.
Charlie Brown, Lucy and the football. It’s obvious that the Senate leaders are on the take.
I just wanted to let you know, BooMan, that you seem to have linked to an old story from 2010.
Right? That’s what happened here, right? Please tell me this is a story from 2010.
Nope. Back then they were armed with a wet blanket.
I distinctly remember overcooked noodles.
I thought is was a matter of dry powder.
At this point, I doubt that a single judgeship will be filled in this second term. Why should the Repukes cooperate? Obama has rolled over, as have Reid, Durbin, and Schumer.
In addition, the CFSB, NLRB, National elections board, and many more will not have directors, and thus will be unable to exercize their functions. The SC will rule in 3 years about the constitutionality of the Recess Appt, but who knows what the ruling will be.
The entire Obama 2nd term is going to be a huge dissapointment.
They need to drop the nuclear bomb, now.
Obama had a “closed door meeting” with Senate Dems, according to TPM
Seems like pretty weak soup to me, given the blatant violation of whatever so-called agreement Reid made with the Reps (if any). If he built some kind of recourse into that pact, it’s past time for him to pull the trigger. I’m thinking that the truth is that the Dems don’t want confirmations to pass, especially anything that empowers the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, for corrupt or political reasons of their own, and letting the Reps control the Senate is just a way to cover their damn asses. It’s the only remaining explanation that fits the history and the facts.
BTW, has anybody seen the actual alleged Reid-McConnell agreement. Or is it yet another vital deal not fit for mere mortal eyes?
Slightly OT: durrati at dKos argues in a comment that the President should use the only pressure he has. He should call each of the offending folks personally and tell them that if they don’t move things forward, he will endorse their runs for re-election.
Had to read that a couple of times before I got the joke.

The American public is depending on two parties agreeing to get their business done: the party of Nosethumbers and the party of Thumbsuckers.
Nosethumbers + Thumbsuckers.
When you put those two things together, you get…bipartisanship!
