   have you seen this story?

   US Army veteran charged with fighting with al-Qaida in Syria, using weapon of mass destruction

   Not for nothing, but what is this phenomenon where people declare and post images, videos, etc of themselves in the act of doing blatantly illegal things.

   I’m on FB (mostly befriending family and close friends) and I have never had the urge to post things like that on public consumption.  Is this a new phenomenon?  And how does it affect law enforcement and  prosecution of some of these things?

     Harroun is not charged with providing material support to a terrorist group, but instead conspiring to use a weapon of mass destruction outside the U.S., a law that applies to U.S. nationals operating anywhere in the world. The statute makes no distinction or exception for an individual who may be fighting a hostile regime.

     How can Federal court possibly have jurisdiction over non-employee civilians in Syria?

   It is possible that so long as white nationalists feel that the Republican Party at least partially represents them, then they would feel invested in the American political process and prefer to act within the norms of the two-party system, being less likely to act violently outside the system.

   Do more mainstream conservatives actually prevent some violence by maintaining some level of dialogue rather than completely repudiating white nationalists?  That seems analogous to the idea that I suspect some people believe that when Israel refuses to negotiate with Palestinians it just leads more Palestinians to see violence and terrorism as a legitimate option.
