Probably the only reasonable way to respond to the election results in the UK today.
I hope he feels a little better because his country is screwed.

British politicians reap what they sow … division of society and separation from the European Union. I see a big smile on de Gaulle’s skull with teeth chatter … I told you so. So similar to the Dutch and Geert Wilders with his xenophobia. And the jihadists keep coming home to roost.
Blimey! I mean…blimey! I mean…I don’t eat squirrels, I mean…Blimey!
righteous but not overly informative to an American viewer who doesn’t know the politicians he’s so mad at.
I used to read The Economist regularly, and I remember that local elections in the UK are not very important and often have a big bloc of anti-govt protest votes. Britain is screwed because they voted Tory at the last general election; what happened today doesn’t change it or make it worse.
Yes–I think the Tories campaign with Fascist dogwhistles but no intention of actually instituting Fascism, because that would be rather vulgar, dear. Like our big money conservatives all they really care about is taxes, but that’s not enough to win elections, so they need the racists too. But the racists are upset about what they regard as broken promises and act out at council elections. With any luck, which God knows poor England needs along about now, the conservative movement will really split; don’t worry about the hard-core racists actually taking power, they can’t do better than 25%.
Enjoyed the rant, but haven’t a clue what he’s talking about. So the Ukip is the basically the Brit teabaggers and stole the vote from the Tories? Does this make any substantial long-term national difference?
No national difference insofar as it’s only local councils. But it may signal Tory weakness, which may signal short life to the Tory government.
Is this worse than having the nutters within the party?
How’s that austerity working, European Union?
Folks in the US should not be complacent. There are worse things than the Tea Party, and the Koch brothers are quite willing to fund them. And they won’t necessarily be co-opted by the Republican Party the next time.
Keep the economic screws on and it could get ugly. That’s why the failure of the Democratic Party to respond to any reality beyond K Street is so infuriating. Don’t they see where this is heading? Or are they going to act surprised when there is violent intimidation of voters and mass rallies of national front groups in major American heartland cities?
He’s f’in right.
