I posted a diary yesterday morning titled “Total Information Awareness – How Quaint” which I have now deleted.
During the evening/night, the discussion in it devolved to a veritable hatefest on Obama. It had become a very different diary when I saw all the new comments this morning. I want no part of it and neither have the time nor inclination to moderate that discussion today. I suggest that (one of) those who took part in that discussion write their own post on how Obama is worse than Nixon to invite that discussion.
This post will also be removed by nightfall today.
I put a fair effort into numerous comments in your now deleted diary, I will not be making that mistake again.
I did not say that “Obama is worse than Nixon”. I wrote that he is scarier than Nixon, because Nixon was funny, so his funniness took the edge of his scariness. I’m sorry, but I found Obama defending the recently leaked data mining by the NSA scary, and I wrote that I was surprised by how vehemently he defended it. If I really hated him, I would not have been surprised.
It is too bad that you have now descended to suppressing information that is unflattering to the Leader.
And you plan to delete this diary later, to censor your censorship. Down the memory hole. How 1984 of you. That goes with Obama’s endless war, summary educations ordered personally by the Leader, and Obama’s total surveillance state.
Frankly, I did not anticipate much interest in this post, which is why I announced that it would be taken down. The only point was to explain the disappearance of the previous post as a courtesy to regular tribbers.
But I’ll leave it up to alleviate your apparent paranoia on censorship.
Oh fudge. Should have quoted Ari Fleischer:
I loathed Bush’s first and second terms. But I’m not supposed to loath the third and fourth terms? Would that make me a hypocrite?
There is a diary at dKos that expands on this:
Americans Are Outraged Because in Voting for Obama, They Thought They Were Rejecting Bush
Obama continuing and expanding Bush’s national security policies is not analogous to his rejecting single-payer health care, for example. During their campaigns, both Obama and Hillary Clinton made clear that they were against single payer. So we knew what we were getting there. But here is what Obama had to say about national security (quoted from the diary):
(Of course, Obama’s imprementation of “no more illegal wiretapping” was to legalize the wiretapping that used to be illegal. Spiegel pointed that out, as I noted in this post.)
Ari’s endorsement of Obama is what’s new. If the GOP and rightwingers could get beyond the color of Obama’s skin, they might be able to recognize a fellow traveler.
As for those that didn’t want a third Bush term, where were they when Obama began announcing his cabinet in November 2008? Okay, maybe it wasn’t unreasonable to say “wtf, but let’s give him a little time to see what he does” at that point. But within six months it was clear — and only fools couldn’t see it.
Since Ask now said that she is not going to delete this diary, I might as well post this here:
An Imagined Letter From One President to Another
Please don’t make a habit of deleting diaries. I understand your motivation but people have the right to expect that their comments won’t be deleted.
I saw some of the comments in that diary and I agree that they were ridiculous, but it’s better to let people own their foolishness and to let the community decide whether they think participants are behaving in good faith.
I have well over a hundred diaries posted here, this is the first one deleted. Today is quite a hectic day in this household with little time to moderate my post from yesterday. I briefly thought of responding, but realized it would surely engender further replies which I would have difficulties finding time to respond to; quite likely of similar nature to the rather outrageous theses presented overnight.
I am all for holding Obama’s feet to the fire, especially when it comes to issues around the security state. My (somewhat infrequent) commentary attests to that.
