Welcome to Friday Foto Flogging, a place to share your photos and photography news.
This Month’s Theme: Liquid
I just thought it was magic that you could stick a bit of paper in some coffee-type liquid and a picture comes out.

Link of the Month: Emperor of the Image: Remembering National Geographic’s Robert Gilka
Robert Gilka was director of photography for National Geographic magazine for 27 years. He passed away on Tuesday, June 25, at the age of 96. I’m sure he shaped a lot of what photography is for some time to come.

Missed the last few foto flogs and am therefore all the happier to be inspired by this theme. Here are my takes on “Liquid”.

The Brasilia dome intrigues me.

Scientist have discovered this deep blue planet. The blue color is caused by rain … of liquid glass?!

I don’t think I’ll be booking a seaside vacation there!
Yikes! That’s hot.

Frankfurt, Germany:
I really like this set, especially Strasbourg.
Frozen Liquids:
Darmstadt, Germany:
Tønsberg, Norway:
Hamburg, Germany:
As always, all your pictures are incredibly well done — there’s so much to take in. The reflection set was my favorite. The Frankfort relection has an amazing mirror effect and was eye-catching (quite literally — it was hard to stop looking at it).
Thanks! I took the photo at the International Book Fair in Frankfurt. They have a guest country each year and beautiful set up was done by that year’s guest country New Zealand.
Glad to have you back Sven. Great sets.
Gorgeous photos, Bob. I especially like the second one, great composition.
I can almost smell the salt air way out here in Indiana.
Thanks to the both of you! Glad to bring you salty goodness.

Love those creek shots you do. This one seems quite magical. Essence of forest distilled.
Love the liquid caught photo. Beautiful!
Thanks to both of you.
Love all the creek shots. The fern reflection on the water and rock. Elements at work.
I like them both, although I continue to be a sucker for those creek shots, quite mesmerizing, they are!

Decorative
Over the dam
Skimmer
Big
Really nice mix of liquids. I do love that shot of the dam but this time, I’m going to have to go with “Decorative” as my favorite of the set.
Thanks! Decorative courtesy of Mother Nature’s ice storm last winter.
Over the dam is quite spectacular. Great light as well.
The spillway is gorgeous, I could sit there for hours.
buoyant
reflective
formative, destructive, uninviting
Love the buoyont photo. Without the reflection you couldn’t even tell it’s water.
Beautiful set, nice take on the theme.
I like all three, but being a lifelong scifi/fantasy reader, I’m drawn to #3 the most. It could be an alien landscape on a distant world, a la Mobius.

We had a 3″ rain in less than three hrs.
Storm Clouds #1
Storm Clouds #2
Storm Clouds #3
Thank goodness for rain … cause it leads to great photos. The last storm cloud photo is obviously the most spectacular but I like #2 the best — it makes you feel the movement of the clouds over the land.
I’m with Andi on the #2, nice set.
Thanks Bob, I particularly like your first one with the coastline winding into the vanishing point. And then your last one, how is it the water is so green? Sure is an interesting contrast between the blue, white and green.
Thanks, there is a huge amount of sand and sediment kicked up in the surf on what is a largely coarse sand beach. And it colors the surf depending on the angle.
You can see the sand in the curl.
Great cloud shots!
