Well to be entirely personal…my little valley has been experiencing an influx of mice and yellow jackets with the warm weather. The mice have fed the rattlesnakes which had been on the decline but now that there’s ample food and warm weather they are friggin everywhere. The local excavator just dropped by to say that as he was driving over the next hill there were so many rattlers on the road he just closed his eyes and gunned it!
There’s only so many times I can put pup in house and get out my rattler shovel and yell ‘die Cheney, die’ as I pummel the writhing reptile to its final demise.
I hate snakes.
Thinking about the upcoming Kennedy anniversary. Hoping there will be some good discussions of it on this blog and elsewhere. Would especially like to hear stories + perspectives from older folks across the political spectrum on how they remember that day.
Maybe it’s also time we finally had a reasoned national debate on his assassination itself. Maybe enough people who were involved have passed on that we don’t need to be so secretive about it anymore. I don’t know if there’s an “answer” to the mystery – I’m no expert and would like to be more educated on it, to some extent. But it was 50 years ago, now. The American public deserve some frank discussion and explanations.
Boo is a bit of a scholar on this topic. He has had several postings about the great American mystery. I’m sure there will be a flurry in November. My current read came from an article here last month. It’s “Into the Nightmare” by Joseph McBride. It came out this past June. You may have to go to e-bay or Amazon to buy it. So much has been written, much of it I’m afraid misinformation, that getting a handle on what really happened is difficult at best. I’m quite sure in my own mind that IF Oswald acted as he is alleged to have on Nov 22, he had company. If he is innocent as he may well be that leaves even the most basic questions unanswered. Fifty years have come and gone, nearly all of the players have left this earth, however I’m quite sure there are a few left who know a few of the answers anyway. It would be a pity to let them pass silently.
The journalism partial-shield law that essentially requires that one own one and be licensed by the king to be shielded. Gonna be lots of arbitrary decisions about who is and who is not a journalist off of that law. Yet another case of abridging the First Amendment by granting a privilege to those who behave.
Re: NYC I am more worried about the recount than the uncounted, though I doubt it will come to a runoff. The runoff numbers are bleak for Thompson and many big supporters (e.g. unions) are aligning with de Blasio. No one wants to be on the bad side of the new mayor it seems. Meantime Lhota is slinging away uncontested and de Blasio will have a hard time hitting back without seeming presumptuous until he’s the official nominee.
A guy can’t even walk around in the woods in a gas mask these days.
Just wondering about the wonderful world of Fracking. It’s coming to my county in Michigan. Boo, do you have a line on an expert who might write an article like “Everything You Need To Know About Fracking” for dummies like me?? Just askin.
