Hello again painting fans.
This week I will continuing with the painting of the Grand Canyon. The photo that I will be using is seen directly below. I will be using my usual acrylics on an 10×10 gallery-wrapped canvas.
When last seen, the painting appeared as it does in the photo directly below.
Since that time I have continued to work on the painting.
There’s hardly an area of the canvas that hasn’t seen some change. First, I’ve reconfigured the orange highlights of the central section. I’ve reshaped and refined things a bit and added a few new highlights. Next, I moved on the the two trees in the foreground. They now have lit and shadowed areas. I’ve attempted to give them a nice evergreen texture. Finally, I’ve completed the sky. The photo has reduced the contrast somewhat. In the upper right corner is the long area of cloud seen in the photo. To the far rear are the clouds in the great distance, some white and others dark against the sky. The painting is now complete.
The current and final state of the painting is seen directly below.
I’ll have a new painting to show you next week. See you then.
Earlier paintings in this series can be seen here.
Paint me a picture of your thoughts.
I like the way you’re getting the details in the shadows.
Thanks Jim. It’s actually done. 🙂
It’s amazing to watch you progress, that’s a beaut.
It has depth and cool contrasts. Its up there with the Packard Grille painting. It is a beauty!
Thanks to all!
good to see!!
boran2,
Very nice piece.
Remember when I mentioned how quickly you seemed to be progressing on this canvas.
And now it`s done… beautifully.
Thanks Knucklehead! I guess things can go quickly when I’m not trying to simulate the appearance of chrome or painted metal 😉
My hat is off to you. I’d love to be a fly on the wall when you get to exhibit a few of your paintings. Hopefully your in-person audience has the same appreciation for what you do as your virtual audience here.
Thanks DD! I’d love to see how the process works when the judges are considering which works to hang.
Very nice work you do, b2!
Thanks ID!
