West Virginia may be the most interesting state in the country. At least, politically, it defies all stereotypes. It’s stridently anti-Obama, but Jay Rockefeller easily won another term in the Senate in 2008. Joe Manchin has been winning statewide elections repeatedly during the Obama era. Earl Ray Tomblin was elected governor in 2012 even as Obama was taking a shellacking in the Mountain State. So, who can predict who will win between Shelley Moore Capito and Natalie Tennant?
I don’t think it’s as obvious as most people think.
yeah, West Virginia leads the pack of folks that vote against their own best interests in order to cling to the Whiteness. The Nigra in the White House is the best friend those poor ass folks have, but they can’t get past the color of his skin.
I don’t count Tennant out…..after all, she’s White.
WV voters stopped voting for the DEM POTUS nominee in 2000. Last time I checked neither Gore nor Kerry were black. (Although Lieberman might have cost Gore in WV — bigotry doesn’t require color.)
What you say is true, but WV has a lot of racists. Entering WV on Route 55 from Virginia, the first two houses you see have confederate flags out front. That kind of sets the tone for your visit.
Isn’t that where the 17 year old nutbar girl beat a state legislators?
Yes but don’t get too excited. Her dad was/is a state legislator as well.
After going on and on about Capito’s deep WV political roots and that she’s a perfect GOP candidate — and conceding that Tennant is a close to perfect DEM candidate — the WAPO writer does seem to favor Capito’s chances even if Tennant is the one with two wins for a statewide office under her belt and Capito’s but a US Rep. Guess that’s why the writer stuck the following at the end of the article:
Tennant should win.
I didn’t realize ol’ Arch was still kicking. Many locals still refer to him as the most corrupt governor in the history of the office. But even then, I think Capito is going to be hard to beat just on the sheer name recognition/legacy factor.
Sure, Manchin and Tomblin have been winning races in WV, but they’ve had to contort themselves politically to such an extent that they’d be considered Republicans in a normal state. I would just about lay odds that a good 15-20% of the voting public in WV probably think they ARE Republicans.
Screw the CW, Booman. You do fine on your own without it.
I see that Pryor’s race has been moved from lean/likely-Republican to toss-up. Count that as another hit to the CW; it’s been obvious that Pryor is definitely the weakest incumbent DEMOCRAT (not Senator, that would be Mitch McConnell). But I believe he will win, and I’ve believed it for a while. It’s still far out, however, and anything can happen.
What’s your take on the Turtle’s chances?
50/50, with McConnell having a better than even chance if I had to put money on it. But he’s definitely in worse shape than Pryor.
If Allison Lundergan Grimes doesn’t stop reading from the Martha Coakley how to lose an easy to win senate seat campaign ideas book, Yertle the Turtle is gonna limp over the finish line a few points ahead of her.
Her campaign is being run by people who are as clueless and tone deaf as he is, but with out the deep pockets he has at his disposal.
tell the truth.
Obamacare has cut the uninsured by FORTY FUCKING PERCENT IN KENTUCKY.
and her stupid ass doesn’t think she should be running on Obamacare.
seriously.
SERIOUSLY?
I’m supposed to feel for someone this unbelievably FUCKING STUPID?
Ashley Judd might have lost to the Turtle, but I know for damn sure she would have run on Obamacare working like it has in Kentucky.
…. well to tell the truth,
If you call it Obamacare, you get a dirty look, even might get them to spit on the ground.
However if you instead call it “Kynect” they all tell you how it has helped them and how wonderful “Pawpaw Beshear” is for givin’ it to all of them.
I keep hearing this –that if you call it X instead of Obamacare, people love it. Can they really be that stupid not to know it’s the same thing?
Yes.
.
Jay Leno did a segment on it some months back. interviewer on the street asked everyone if they liked Obamacare – no, it doesn’t work, it’s terrible, etc. Then asked what about the ACA – no preexisting condition stuff, kids stay on parents plan, etc – oh, yeh, it’s great. you’d think ppl would figure it out by now though
Certain people work very hard to try to separate the two in low information voters minds, like the current candidate for senate in the state of Kentucky, (and I’m not talking about Yertle), and of course the sitting Gov.(to actually get the votes to pass it.)
Yes many people are that self deluded politically, especially if they get the benefit but don’t want to admit the usurper in the white house * did help them out. That idea they cannot stand, it almost seems to be an insult to them for some unstated reason ….
*direct quote of an elderly gentleman
yes, this was the “survey” Jimmy Kimmel not Jay Leno
I wonder if they got any respondents who said, “aren’t they the same thing?”
Then run on the Affordable Care Act. Stress that it enabled Kynect and McConnel voted against it. “Mitch McConnel is for rich Wall Street Barons – Not You!”
Sure it’s Obamacare, but that’s a name that doesn’t poll well in Kentucky. In an election you have to play the name game.
