From BooMan’s fp story – They Cauldronized the Middle East. A shortcoming BooMan left out the link to Israel, Netanyahu, 9/11 attacks and the declaration of war on terror by both states. Obama signed on to the PNAC doctrine through intervention in Libya and Syria. The chaos cannot easily be described except in hundreds of thousands of deaths and counting. The refugees are mounting in the millions and of itself will be a burden the global community can hardly bear.
This is not the first time Ledeen has written eloquently on his love for “the democratic revolution” and “creative destruction.” In 1996, he gave an extended account of his theory of revolution in his book, Freedom Betrayed— the title, one assumes, is a deliberate reference to Trotsky’s Revolution Betrayed. Ledeen explains that “America is a revolutionary force” because the American Revolution is the only revolution in history that has succeeded, the French and Russian revolutions having quickly collapsed into terror.
…
Ledeen’s conviction that the Right is as revolutionary as the Left derives from his youthful interest in Italian fascism. In 1975, Ledeen published an interview, in book form, with the Italian historian Renzo de Felice, a man he greatly admires. It caused a great controversy in Italy. Ledeen later made clear that he relished the ire of the left-wing establishment precisely because “De Felice was challenging the conventional wisdom of Italian Marxist historiography, which had always insisted that fascism was a reactionary movement.” What de Felice showed, by contrast, was that Italian fascism was both right-wing and revolutionary.
The May edition of his Far Eastern Economic Review was banned in China, according to the Washington Times, which attributed the banning to the magazine’s publication of an essay by the American Enterprise Institute’s “Freedom Scholar,” Michael Ledeen, entitled “Beijing Embraces Classical Fascism.”
EXCLUSIVE: Documents Shed Light On Those Underwriting The Foundation For Defense Of Democracies
(ThinkProgress) July 19, 2011 – The Foundation for Defense of Democracies (FDD) has been a vocal presence in Washington since its founding in the days following the 9/11 attacks as a self-described “nonpartisan policy institute dedicated exclusively to promoting pluralism, defending democratic values, and fighting the ideologies that threaten democracy.” But FDD’s position consistently fell in line with the Bush administration’s militant “war on terror” and policies espoused by Israel’s right wing Likud party. In recent years, FDD has become one of the the premiere DC organizations promoting more aggressive actions against Iran.
…
Canadians Edgar M. and Charles Bronfman, heirs to the Seagram liquor company fortune, contributed $1,050,000 to FDD between 2001 and 2004. Edgar M. Bronfman served as president of the World Jewish Congress from 1979 to 2007. Charles Bronfman, along with fellow FDD donor Michael Steinhardt cofounded Taglit Birthright which offers free trips to Israel for young Jewish adults. Steinhardt is a hedge fund mogul who contributed $850,000 to FDD from 2001 to 2004.
…
Most of the major donors are active philanthropists to “pro-Israel” causes both in the U.S. and internationally. With the disclosure of its donor rolls, it becomes increasingly apparent that FDD’s advocacy of U.S. military intervention in the Middle East, its hawkish stance against Iran, and its defense of right-wing Israeli policy is consistent with its donors’ interests in “pro-Israel” advocacy.

So, what do you think was Bibi’s reaction was to Cantor’s demise? He lost a very powerful voice in the House.
It’s like losing a servant, shan. You simply hire another one. There will be no shortage of qualified applicants. Bet on it.

Does Obama have President Ford’s playbook for evacuating an embassy under attack? A pity of Saddam’s palaces and the fortified U.S. Embassy which will get some redecorating done when ISIS sweeps through.
To be clear, ISIS has been strengthened through weapon shipments into northern Syria via Turkey for US allied opposition fighters against Assad. The Kurds have battled the jihadists and kept them out of their territory. The region where ISIS roamed in Syria was scarcely populated in the cities along the Euphrates river, see Raqqa and the cleansing of Deir ez-Zour.
Maliki wasted the good relationship U.S. forces maintained with tribal leaders in the Sunni triangle of Anbar province. The Sunni areas have been run over by ISIS with help of local tribal leaders. I understood ISIS had been succesful through awakening of ‘sleeper cells’ in these major cities. It has been a slow proces of months … Maliki’s parliamentary election represented a hollow victory because the Sunni population refused to take part.
