This is kind of a mind-blowing fundraising effort on the Republican National Committee’s part:
President George W. Bush led our nation through some of the most challenging moments of our nation’s history — and we miss him and his leadership. In honor of President George W. Bush’s birthday, we’re offering a blue, special-edition “I Miss W.” t-shirt.
By sporting this comfortable, classic, American-made tee, you can share our message and help us elect principled conservative leaders to office.
Get your official “I Miss W.” t-shirt by contributing $27 today.
I know that there are many people who are unhappy with the current occupant of the White House and wish that a Republican were in charge, but I doubt that there are many people who sincerely miss George W. Bush. In fact, the first thing that man ever did to make me favorably disposed to him was to basically vanish off the face of the planet the moment the helicopter ushered him out of Washington DC.
As for me, that day he flew away was the happiest of my life.
I remember how the people cheered and sang Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Him Goodbye. It was beautiful.
I don’t expect to see anyone wearing an I Miss W t-shirt.

I can’t claim credit for this, but a shirt that says “I miss W” only works if the back says “Then I threw my other shoe, but that missed too.”
I feel the same way you do, but on the other hand, this is a big country and I’m sure there are MILLIONS of people who sincerely miss George Bush.
Bush & Cheney lovers coincide roughly with non-TP republicans. So it’s natural that the NRC would try to appeal to their “base” through nostalgia for Bush.
My wife has an elderly aunt of that type. Westchester/Connecticut country club republican of the old school.
This is the Republican version of small-donor outreach. I’m sure they’ll raise six or seven hundred dollars this way.
“I remember how the people cheered and sang Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Him Goodbye.”
Word. I was there with my 10 year old between the Wash. Monument and the WH when the helicopter went up and the singing began. An unbelievable moment on so many levels.
Likewise. That was great.
Anyone remember this from 2010?

It’s interesting to read the comments, some from people who really did miss Bush.
27 percenters, AKA “Bush dead-enders”
amusing that the tee-shirt is $27.
that’s what I thought was the funniest part them charging $27
Can’t wait for the I miss Rumsfeld version.
I haven’t seen any shirts that say that yet, but I have seen a couple of bumper stickers that do.
It may be that some people honestly do miss him, but I think they’re more likely to be displayed by people who really don’t give a crap about Bush but mistakenly think it’ll piss off people they despise. (Of course, in reality, it’ll make most of us just roll our eyes and laugh.)
I think that likely correct but am sad and puzzled that they want to piss me off. And that they so blindly dismiss and hate anything Obama (or before that just what any “lee-bed-ahl” proposed).
Oh I get it but it is sad that it persists in the face of so much evidence to the contrary.
Here is some additional information on the 2010 “Miss Me Yet?” campaign:

The idea that the motivation was more anti-Obama than genuinely pro-Bush is supported by this story. (Scroll down for the story.)

“Never interfere with the enemy when he is in the process of destroying himself”
I hope this fundraiser nets the Republican party billions.
Please, please, please, remind the American electorate about the last Republican we let play Emperor.
Please, let’s get these shirts to as many people as possible and encourage them to wear them as often as possible.
Please, remind as many people as possible that the Republican party would love to stick Dubya back into the White House if they could.
Talk about a short-sighted strategy to make money. I think the Republican party, as a national party, is being grifted into the dirt.
At this point, a liberal can donate to that fundraiser and it is akin to donating to a negative attack campaign by a Democrat.
Bigger multiplier.
The only good thing about the George W. Bush presidency is that he was term-limited.
I don’t think Dubya wanted to stay around and clean up the mess he made. Why should he? He’s always had someone else clean up his messes.
Why not? They still miss Dick, Gerry, Ronnie, and GHW. The only reason they don’t miss Cheney is that he hasn’t gone away.
It’s worth $27 to a conservative Republican TeaBagger if they think the shirt pisses off a liberal.
So let’s all pretend to be pissed off.
Maybe they could raise a few bucks selling prints of W’s paintings — of a cat or of his feet. Pretty well sums up the competence of his administration and the profundity of his accomplishments.
This won’t itself do much, but one thing that the right wing has is persistence, so they’ll keep at it. Relying on short memories and the reluctance of our media to actually be willing to rebut revisionist misinformation is actually likely to prove an effective rehabilitation strategy. It worked for Reagan, after all, since he wasn’t actually very popular when leaving office.
