I’ve vacationed there many, many times. Even rented a house with my Ukrainian friends, back in the mid-80’s, in Ship Bottom.
FYI – the best time to go there, is right after Labor Day. All of the restaurants and shops are still open, and no hordes of summering city folks from NY and Philly.
You have the run of the place. And you get treated like gold, because you’re not only one of the last ones for that year, but you were smart enough not to come with the mass of demanding tourista’s who want service, “NOW, DAMMIT!!!”

Why just admit that Israel did it?
No, Israel has done plenty of mischief, and often for the US. Remember how they helped facilitate Iran-contra? No, well, that’s okay, everyone’s forgotten that.
But this strikes me as a false flag to draw the west further into this mess and to further isolate Russia. There are already several different explanations appearing in the western press blaming the rebels (who apparently don’t have SAMs that reach that altitude) and Russian intelligence.
And the BBC announced on its website that this is a “game-changer”. What does it change and what is the game? I think most of us who’ve followed US military actions around the world can guess. It’s not a game-changer that will bring all sides to the negotiating table, is it?
It also smacks of poorly trained ( in the SAM system) and poorly organized rebels got their hands on a SAM system and shot the wrong plane down with their new found toy.
That requires fewer assumptions and I bet it is just way cool to launch those suckers.
Who cancelled the truce last week? Who won’t sit down with the rebels?

In september 1993 rebels shot down 3 civilian passenger planes over Georgian airspace.
Not to mention many instances of high probability a plane was downed in an assassination: Dag Hammarsjkold and Pakistan president Muhammad Zia-ul-Haq.
