Wait a second. California has more people than Canada? I hadn’t even thought of that possibility.
Republicans like Two and a Half Men. Democrats like Divorce Court.
At the Washington Post, Matea Gold profiles Art Pope.
Sad to hear that James Garner has passed away. I used to love to watch The Rockford Files.
No matter how many articles are written about Rick Perry’s political future, he will remain a dumber version of George W. Bush.
This Vox explainer actually taught me some things about how network television works.
The Israelis’ incursion into Gaza has set off some riots in Paris.
Hamas claims to have an Israeli soldier in their custody.
The Week has gathered some great photojournalism.
What’s on your mind?
I am saddened about James Garner’s passing. For those who enjoyed his particularly quirky and self-effacing strength, I have a suggestion. Find a copy of “36 hours” and watch it. It’s a movie about WWII, but it has a little twist, and I won’t tell you what it is. You will definitely enjoy it. It has Garner and Eva Marie Saint when she was that essence of hot blondness. My wife’s very favorite movie.
I loved James Garner. Earliest memories are of watching Maverick with my dad when I was a toddler.
36 Hours is a great movie.
If not for James Garner and “Maverick,” I would never have seen a TV western when I was a kid because I wasn’t allowed to see any shows with violence.
George Clooney has that James Garner thing.
He met his wife at some Adlai Stevenson event. And refused even to portray a Republican on screen (said his wife would leave him if he did).
From “Maverick” to “The Notebook,” he was always one of my favorite actors.
I’m too young to really know who Garner was, but if he was there, he seems like a friend of mine:
There is an even better picture where he’s actually holding Diahann Carroll’s(the person in front of him) hand when they were marching.
is next to him. I believe James Baldwin is behind Brando.
How can you not love James Garner?

I never heard a bad thing said about him. He was apparently gracious to fans when meeting them on the beach or in other places. He also apparently was married to the same woman since 1957.
He was a great actor. He was always NOT reaching for the gun, but instead he was making some goofy comment which would defuse the situation.
James Garner was the epitome of cool. May he rest in peace.
I’ve been telling people for years that we can’t compare policies of Canada with the U.S. because there’s more people just in California. Their healthcare plan is fine for a country with only 35 million people but we have almost ten times as many peopl in this country. A whole other ballgame.
Other countries that California beats:
Morocco, Peru, Venezuela, Malaysia, Australia, Chile and the Netherlands and Belgium combined.
Or..There are a shit ton of Californians.
RIP James Garner. I wish the current leader of Israel was cut from his same jib.
I made the unfortunate decision to peek in on a couple of the Sunday morning GOP-enabling blabfests. I had lost focus on CNN’s interview with Netanayhu and was focusing on Internet surfing when my attention was grabbed when the Israeli Prime Minister cranked his repelling rhetoric up to 12.
Wolf was asking him about the dead Palestinian civilians, and the response he got was that Hamas is guilty of war crimes for forcing Israel to bomb Palestinian children. In the middle of this insane rant, he said “(Hamas uses) telegenically dead Palestinians for their cause.”
http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/1407/20/sotu.01.html
“…telegenically dead Palestinians…”
Journalists should not enable such unimaginably vile rhetoric to go unchalleneged. Wolf pushed back against Netanayhu consistently but very softly, and allowed this unhinged jerk to go off on a few long rants. Even for Sunday show standards, this was vomitous.
Well, Wolf himself has a fairly well known viewpoint anyway:
And there we go, Muslim anti-semitism is going to do wonders for the Palestinian cause in France.
What I’ve learned is whenever an article starts with “protesters clashed with police” or “a protest turned violent after clashes with police” it means that the pigs attacked protesters and turned it violent.
Also:
Violence outside Paris synagogue falsely attributed to anti-Semitism
Yep, they couldn’t protest because of damage previous protests had done to synagogues. So the police attempted to disperse them as I understand it.
No, the graph only plotted Republican and swing voters. So, swing voters like Divorce Court.
While anecdotal, a GOP relative of mine loved “Two and a Half Men” (before Sheen flipped out). Probably watched each episode at least three times.
Loved James Garner.
RIP and thank you for your body of work.
There are more people in California than in the entire country of Canada….wow
Another Okie favorite son, perhaps second only to Will Rogers.
Flowers left James Garner’s statue in his hometown of Norman, Oklahoma.
