We will be in Manhattan this weekend and blogging is going to be a low priority for me. So, play nice, don’t shoot anyone in the face, and please leave civil aviation alone.

Say “HI!” to the Lower East Side and East Village, where I used to live and tend bar back in the early-mid 80’s!
FSM, I miss those days!
And I especially miss the old East Village, where, as a friend of mine used to say, “Every night is Halloween!”
Those neighborhoods don’t exist anymore, c u n d gulag. They have been replaced by Bloomberg-sponsored simulacra. Y’might find a taste of that life in some of the relatively un-hyped areas of Brooklyn and Queens (Bushwick, Gowanus etc.), but the old L.E.S.? Gone, gone gone. All you have to know is that the building in which I lived at $70/month rent in the late ’60s/early ’70s…bathtub in the kitchen, 52 E 1st St. between 1st + 2nd Ave, burned out in a biker gang war…had a floor-through apartment sell at $1.5 million recently. Even the Hell’s Angels on E. 3rd are in the money. Real estate money. Believe it.
I’m inna Bronx now. Kinda like the L.E.S. before the hippie invasion. Working class, only different ethnicities.
So it goes.

Yeah.
I went back for a visit in 2007, and didn’t recognize many things anymore – due to gentrification.
Katz’s Deli was still there, and so was Russ and Daughters and Schimmel’s Knishes, but that was about all on Houston that I recognized.
Oh, and the Telephone Bar, on 2nd between 9th and 10 Aves, and that great Polish kielbasa place a block lower.
Everything else – gone…
I used to live on Avenue B and 8th in 1970. For entertainment at nights I could go to Fillmore East or watch the junkies gather around fires in the burned out building across the way from us.
I’m guessing that doesn’t exist anymore.
Okay now this worries me. Cuz you know it is the one admonition you left off your list that will happen this weekend. If it does, you can’t ever go on vacation again. Meanwhile, have a terrific time.
Have a good time. We should have a BMT meetup again one of these days.

Fine. Leave, just when I want to hear your response to this!
‘Republicans Maybe Not as Inept as Booman Thinks,’ is the title. Something like that, anyway.

Tikun Olam is one of the few blogs I follow and sometimes contribute my thoughts. Throughout the years, Tikun Olam is harassed on a daily basis by the (paid) group of hasbarists out of the school of Gerald Steinberg. Netahyhu by his military actions may be losing the PR war. From the Office of the Minister President most directives are send, and funding arranged, to fight the PR war across the western world.
