The is something vaguely terrifying about the Republican contest to replace Arizona Governor Jan Brewer. I guess the main thing that frightens me is the realization that Brewer represents sanity in the Arizona Republican Party. That is really saying something, but it is clearly true. She’s the voice of reason.
How did this happen?
Vaguely terrifying?
The terror that arises from knowing, definitively, that stark raving mad morons like her are in the relatively not completely insane wing of a once mainstream party is very real.
And it’s not just the party, after all they are simply pandering to their completely fucking nuts constituents.
Oh, the terrifying part is that, after Jan Brewer is replaced by some frothing-at-the-mouth GOPer, in a few more years Booman will be writing the same post: “I thought FATM-GOPer was nuts, but he’s sane compared to the next bunch!”
Rinse, repeat, flush a great nation down the toilet.
e-mails in the Scott Walker probe have been released. NYTimes has a story up on it and it doesn’t look good for Scottie.
Reply in my diary – Gov Walker and Cline’s Gogebic Taconite Ore Mining.
Unless or until Walker is indicted, won’t be of much interest here and even then doubtful that any of us have anything of substance to contribute to it. Two or three WI dKos diarists have been covering this issue for years — often in exhausting (and mind numbing) detail. Today’s offering Bombshell: WI Gov Walker Illegally Rerouted Donations to, then Coordinated With, Club for Growth. That’s how I’ve been casually following it.
(I continue to monitor the developments in the Christie corruption probes. But possibly only because I put a lot of time into researching the history of the Ft. Lee development projects and remain curious as to if it ties into the GW Bridge toll lane closings and I have some interest and professional experience in large development projects.)
Booman Tribune is being hit by a continuous stream of webcrawlers originating with Google in Mountain View, Ca. It has tripled the page views during the night.
A half-decade of what has effectively been a recession for most Americans, preceded by a decade of little-or-no increase in prosperity, combined with over a decade of war and 3-4 decades of demographic change would be my guess.
Barry Goldwater wept.
I hope he was weeping from guilty regret, because it’s his fault.
It’s that dry heat.
It’s a dry hate.
Arizona, it’s not the heat, it’s the stupidity.
You can’t spell crazy without R-AZ.
is the model for the Republicans. The GOP can effectively go two directions:
The base will not all them to choose 1, so they are going to do 2. That works in AZ – that idiot Sheriff there actually has approval ratings over 50%.
It won’t work in 2024. It might work in 2014 and 2016.
If post-Ferguson the small cities towns across the US are relieved of their military weaponry there will be plenty for the new Arizona gov to pick up.
Frankly, in addition to everything else, it’s pitiful that Arizonans live in such a beautiful place with lovely climate and probably spend all their waking hours in terror of “Mexicans”. If I lived in those conditions I’d ask for my life back.
Re the lovely Arizona climate, just don’t travel through the state during the 3rd week of July. My one and only trip and I’ve never been so painfully hot in my entire life and I live in the humid heat of the SE US. At least we’ve trees under which to shelter in these parts.
Basically they’re nerving themselves up to saw “Just shoot anyone who crosses the border illegally” that’s what they really want. Automated turrets and drones, maybe pit traps or poison gas or something.
