Former Governor Involuntary Mandatory Vaginal Probe of Virginia was convicted of 11 counts of public corruption (basically) and faces a lot of jail time. His wife got nailed with seven corruption convictions and one conviction for obstruction of justice.
For a moment or two I considered feeling sad for them. But, I got over it.
It will probably never cease to amaze me how dumb some people with a bit of power become when a bit of money is dangled in front of them.
Speaking of which, did feel sad for a moment that Madoff’s younger son died from lymphoma. But maybe it was worth it to have their sons live so well in their relatively short lives.
If I was a Republican governor and the unanimous mouths of my party and the media began to tout me as a presidential possibility I’d lawyer-up first thing.
Lol, and back in 2009 I thought he was presidential material. To the point where he could hide his radicalism so well to the general public, and I did not understand it. I never found him likable, either — though I didn’t care for Creigh Deeds, whatsoever.
Shit before the vaginal probe I figured he’d be VP candidate in 2012. Guess Rmoney’s vetting team did a better job than McCain’s.
Greed is the Repugs prerequisite to joining the clan. Stupid is also very important to fit in. McDonnell and his wife are true Republicans. Dumb and greedy.
If their bad marriage defense wasn’t true it likely will be now.
Well, well, “the arc of the moral universe” does “bend toward justice” on occasion.
Wait for the sentencing details.
I guess the men on the jury didn’t buy the ‘ I have a horrible marriage’ defense.
Half of them probably completely identified with the ‘bad marriage’ explanation, but said – ‘so what, I’m in the same boat and I’m not committing any crimes.’
I had to watch Rachel Maddow tonight. I knew her opening segment would be on McDonnell and the verdict. She reminded me of something I had known, but forgotten.
McDonnell was offered a plea deal of one felony count, and would have spared his wife being charged.
He declined the plea deal.
Ha! Ha! Truly dumb.
Dumber still, it began with a claim that the Gov Mansion’s chef was stealing food.
right up there with Demon Sheep
“”Mr. Schneider’s prior denials of wrongdoing and his reckless allegations against the governor’s office and the McDonnell family have been completely discredited by today’s criminal convictions,” said Jason Miyares, a spokesman for McDonnell’s legal team. “
Yes. Discredited. Completely.
The sense of entitlement, and lack of reality-based humility, among these asshats is amazing.
It never occurs to them that maybe, just maybe, they can just do with what what they are given or that maybe they can just make do with the dress, jewelry, food, or whatever they actually have.
I guess he decided throwing her under the bus was a better idea
Hahaha! Instead, his defense team smeared her as a tobacco-juiced nympho, and now they’re both going the slammer on multiple counts.
What a Happy Thanksgiving the McDonells will have! I wonder who’ll do the cooking. Their ex-chef? Hahaha!
Will they slam them in soliatary cells as “suicide risks”? Considering the pathetic defense….
People were talking about the SI Cover curse in regards to MoNe Davis being on the cover.
Today people should be talking about the State of Reunion Response Curse during the Obama era.
To a person, all of the “up and coming” GOP chosen responders to Obama have either fallen out of favor or there political capitol has collapsed or are completely out of political all together.
McDonnell, Jindal, Rubio, Bachmann, Paul Ryan…geez. At this point, no elected GOP official will want to do the response to Obama at all.
Funny how those political accidents keep happening to essentially corrupt politicians. Where’s their “War on Women” female responder that they put up a few months ago?
Now if they can get that unlucky at the polls in November we might get back to restoring this nation. Otherwise, at least 2 and possible 10 more years of crap.
I assume this decision will be overturned on grounds of the accused being Republicans.
That was exactly my first reaction.
IOKIFYAWR.
i hope that when (if) he goes to jail, he enjoys his involuntary cavity search. I suppose it’s a little much to expect that he’ll reflect on the women he wanted to subject to that same humiliation, so i will make sure to write him a letter when (if) he is incarcerated.
Bet now they wish they hadn’t phucked with him….but, he was only ‘ the chef’, so they thought they could mess with him.

Chef who brought down McDonnells dishes on Bob and Maureen

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — A key figure in the corruption trial of former Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell and his wife Maureen, sat back and watched the legal and political drama play out on television.
Former Virginia Executive Mansion Chef, Todd Schneider said Thursday, justice was being served on the menu after the conviction of the former first couple.
Schneider was the chef in the mansion from 2010 – 2012.
It was Schneider, you may recall, who went to the FBI with the key evidence used to indict the McDonnells on charges they accepted gifts and money from political donor and Virginia businessman Jonnie Williams in exchange for promoting Williams’ company, Star Scientific, and its dietary supplement supplement Anatabloc.

WaPo reports that he was offered a deal last January where he’d plead to one count on a non corruption charge and wife wouldn’t be charged at all. He declined.
Virginia has a problem in that his actions aren’t covered by laws on the state books as being illegal. Only Fed laws covered his actions. Time for Virginia to enact corruption laws for their elected officials.
