So. After reading some more and thinking about the speech, I think the hurdles are too high to surmount, Obama has destroyed his foreign policy legacy, the country is now doomed in the contest with China, Sunnis will hate us even more, and this is going to degrade midterm election prospects. In addition I shudder to think what Clinton or even worse a republican president will do to worsen Obama’s war.
Love that optimism, man.
I take anti depressants. Let that sink in.
Now let’s hear your pessimistic assessment. Because it could actually be much worse as Canadians, Aussies, and Kiwis have found out in the last decade.
Well Turkey has now said they won’t participate or allow any strike missions to be flown from Turkey. Are they concerned about a caliphate on their border? Nay.
Not the first time Turkey has mucked up the situation.
Airstrikes alone aren’t going to do the job Obama has signed us up for. Unless the regions players can get their acts together and put together credible ground forces to oppose IS, this policy will be about as effective as Clinton’s cruise missiles were in Libya. OTOH, and like Clinton’s escapades, unless IS has surface to air missile capability our air force(s) should be able to deal death without danger (other than to the US pocketbook). So there’s that. And the pics of missile strikes on the evening news should be super entertaining. O’s poll numbers are already climbing, I can feel it.
Ok, so here’s an observation by the Crisis Group that brings into focus what may seem like a far fetched element, but the reality of where these fighters are coming from both geographically & reactionary to the political abuse they live under shouldn’t be ignored. Have the water wars begun under the guise of a caliphate?
