Here’s a bulk-mail excerpt from my old boss, Jim Dean.
In the weeks ahead, Democracy for America — alongside our friends at United Working Families, MoveOn, and the Chicago Teachers Union — will go all in to defeat Rahm Emanuel in the runoff on April 7 and elect Jesus “Chuy” Garcia as Chicago’s new mayor.
We will also fight to re-elect Aldermen John Arena and Toni Foulkes, who are going to a runoff against two of Rahm’s cronies. DFA members will harness that grassroots energy to build a lasting, broad-based progressive movement that will bring Elizabeth Warren-style, populist progressive reform to Chicago in the years to come.
Rahm and Jim’s brother Howard are famous enemies. It’ll be interesting to see who wins this battle here.
I know who I’m rooting for.
Damn — I’m still a sucker for a glimmer of hope.
Chicago, choose Chuy. Please.
Give yourself to the moment! Hope is good for health!
heh. Many years ago after returning from a company development seminar, I started Monday morning at work by filling out the first page of my new “To Do List” tablet. Didn’t want to be too ambitious on the first day of my new time management strategy; so, I was modest in planning what I would accomplish that day. Really modest in that I put only half as much on that list than what I usually managed on a good day.
As 5:00 began to roll around, and after multiple attempts, it was clear that the first item on my list wasn’t going to get done that day. Hadn’t tackled anything else on the list at all. It hadn’t been a good day. And that damn “to do list” had made it worse. The last thing I did before leaving work that day was to chuck the “to do” tablet in the trash can. Never had a work day that bad again.
I’ll be voting early and often for Chuy, just like I did yesterday.
Ps. Fuck Bruce Rauner, too. It’s just as much the fault of the IL Democratic party that he got elected as it is all the fucking idiots who voted for him.
what’s the story with his nickname?
On WGN-TV this morning he was being interviewed. He said it’s a Mexican nickname for Jesus (pronounced “Hey Zeus”). Doesn’t make sense to me, but then neither does “Dick” for “Richard” or “Bob” for “Robert”.
Used to work with a guy named Jesus (Hey Zeus), his nickname was “Jesse”, but that’s in Illinois, not Mexico.
thanks.
yes, Dick, Bob [and Harry] don’t make any sense to me either. maybe it’s something from Chaucer
Harry for Harold makes sense, but not Harry for Henry. Perhaps (almost certainly) the pronunciations were different then. But wouldn’t Henry been Awn-ree ?
“Fuck Bruce Rauner” Ughhh! You gave me the creeps early in the morning.
Going to find me a Chuy button and a Chuy lawn sign this weekend.
Will be voting early, and doing phone banking for him.
Cillizza totally cribbing my shit.
like he was ever original
