It could be argued that the fact that Quayle was picked for VP and won opened the door for the GOP elders to choose idiots who sounded like idiots for the presidential nomination, ultimately leading to GWB and the cast of clowns we’ve had in 2008, 2012 and again now. Prior to that they had to pick an idiot who could sound intelligent as long as he followed the script (Reagan).
