I wonder if Pope Francis is aware of how crazy Philadelphia has gone as it prepares for his visit.

In 1979, I lived in the burbs and worked in Phillie, and the Pope came. They didn’t do any of this shit. SEPTA ran normally, they only closed streets where the event happened, no fence. I took the Media local in and out of the city that day, it was crowded but made all the stops and was basically on time. I guess people are more worried these days about violent nuts, but none of this crap is going to stop it. BTW, after that guy tried and failed to shoot up a train in France, Sen. Blumenthal said we need airline style security on trains. Puhleeze.
Crazier than it’s been for the last couple of decades?
Impossible.

When I lived there, the official slogan of the Philadelphia Tourism Bureau was “Philadelphia isn’t as bad as Philadelphians say it is.” Stone truth.
Well, I live in Philadelphia, a few blocks from the Parkway, and I am unaware that the city has “gone crazy”. It’s going to be 2-3 days of inconvenience. People need to get a grip.
i’d say the “strategery” is a rousing success. if you want to reduce a city-paralyzing influx of fanatics from 1M to 100k, here’s the perfect way to do it.
well played, philly. well played.
They are going to show Pope Frankie lots of love.
