There’s basically no question in my mind that Erick Erickson’s indictment of the Rand Paul campaign is not only the best but the truest thing he has ever written. I think he completely nailed everything that has been wrong with Rand Paul as both a senator and as a candidate. Erickson must be right about Rand alienating his father’s supporters or he wouldn’t be struggling to raise money. After all, he entered the race with an army of Paulist supporters that had been developed over more than two decades. Where are they? Why aren’t they opening their checkbooks? Why aren’t they plastering every road sign in the country with Paul bumperstickers like they did for his father?
At this point, Rand really should shut down a campaign that isn’t going anywhere and focus on getting reelected to the Senate. But he should also reconsider what he’s doing with his political career and his life. He could have been a real maverick who could speak for people on both sides of the aisle and for those who are alienated from the whole process. He hasn’t lived up to that promise.
At all.
Rand Paul sold his soul (such as it is) to the GOP, to get some tiny little flavor of ‘power’.
And now he’s stuck where his previous allies have been betrayed, and his new allies don’t like/trust him very much. Suck to be him.
I wish people would JUST SHUT UP ABOUT RAND PAUL!!!!!
Leave the man alone. He is a genuine, American red-blooded hero who actually believes what he is saying. Right now he’s going thru hard times, but for those of us who truly believe, HE WILL COME THROUGH!!!!
Besides, the longer he runs for Preznit, the less time (and $$$) he has to run for Senate after his lilly white frat ass finally gives up.
Reminds me of the Vanderbilt Football Prayer: Dear Lord, for the ass whuppin’ we are about to receive, let us be truly grateful.
Would be a waste of a bullet.
“… not only best but the truest thing he has ever written …”
That’s a mighty low bar. On both counts.
I don’t think Erickson quite nails everything that is wrong with Rand Paul, because he’s still giving him too much credit for seriousness:
He’s done a lot of posturing and grandstanding on those issues, but serious reflection? What evidence is there that Rand Paul has ever seriously reflected on anything?
He saw the non-personing his father got. He tried something else…tried to parse the middle. It didn’t work. So it goes. Now it’s going to be Hillary Clinton vs. Donald Trump…or possibly Jeb Bush if Trump implodes somehow.
PermaGov Job One: Make damned sure nobody gets anywhere near the presidency who might rock the boat.
Job One?
Job done.
Is he politically talented?
Not Major League level. For sure.
Who is?
Out of this bunch. ? Trump and HRC
Hmmmm…
Maybe it’s better just to be honest.

I just googled “Ron Paul” and got 169,000,000 hits.
Non-personing? Grow up.
Did you watch the RatPub “debates” last campaign?
Apparently not.
Yahoo News:
WTFU.

Who cares? He didn’t think he was getting enough air time, he whined about it, so they gave him more. My point is just that it doesn’t take any kind of conspiracy to discredit Ron Paul. Just let him run his mouth and he’ll take care of that for you.
Rand has no real leadership skills. He abandoned his base instead of bringing the base along with him.
Erickson beats Paul up for not standing with Cruz and Mike Lee. And also suggests that daddy Paul was some national political powerhouse.
As to the latter, daddy only came in third in the 2012 GOP primaries for mostly for the same reasons that Santorum came in second. Current polls demonstrate where Ricky would have been in 2012 had there been more alternatives to Romney and Rand’s numbers are only slightly off from where his daddy would have been under the same conditions. Daddy was always some weird sort of fantasy among a segment of more or less alienated white guys.
Cruz is losing badly to three political amateurs that are only Palin with better syntax and more complete sentences.
The only question Paul has to ponder at this point is whether or not his Senate seat is as secure as his daddy’s House seat was. If it is, he can continue getting all the free national TV attention and that will come in handy when he makes his other presidential runs, because unlike his daddy, he believes that he can be elected.
Sure, put Paul out of his misery. Cruz too, while we’re at it. Plus Christie, Graham, Jindal, Pataki, Santorum, and Gilmore (who?). Heck, even Bush should be shot.
Leave it to those who are at least a bit entertaining. Fiorina for her extraordinary ability to tell whoppers and get away with it, Rubio for pretending to have no clue how fucked he is, Kasich so the press can cling to the notion of moderation in the GOP, Carson because . . . popcorn! and the future emperor of hell, Donald Trump.
Rand Paul is an abject coward. Look at everything that he has done and run it through that lens and see if that doesn’t explain just about everything that he’s done.
Please don’t give him good advice. Maybe he’ll blow it there too, and we won’t have him to kick around any more.
