Ted Cruz isn’t really in a position to be vetting vice-presidential running mates, but floating Carly Fiorina’s name doesn’t make a tremendous amount of sense to me. She’d clearly be a dreadful candidate, but I don’t think that’s the point. Isn’t the point to win over some voters in Indiana?
I guess Cruz thinks he can exploit Trump’s weakness with women?
Aside from maybe Chris Christie, who could Trump pick? Another billionaire bankruptcy expert who’s never run for office before?
Ben Carson since he does such a great job defending him already on TV
Forgot about Ben Carson. Didn’t Trump call him a sociopath?
I didn’t hear that, but that’s funny since Carson has been his main surrogate.
How about Herman 999 Cain?
He retracted that statement after Carson endorsed him.
Ugh: Cruz & Fiorina.
Lordy! That’s a fugly team, that is.
I simply do not understand how R-voters can find one thing appealing about Fiorina, and that goes double for Cruz.
Thanks. That thought’ll probably put me off my feed for about a week. Time for swift weight loss!
As for a suitable running mate for Trump? Boyohboy, that’s a hard Q as well. I read something this morning at the airport about how Christie is now effectively “ruined” from being in politics anymore. I don’t know if that would be considered a net positive or a net negative for Trump to consider Christie as Veep material.
Ugh. Geez. just UGH.
Who could Trump pick who would deter impeachment?
W picked Dick Cheney (or Cheney picked himself).
Who could Democrats and Republicans agree on that they would never allow succeed to the Presidency? That would be Trump’s choice. A sorta Spiro Agnew kind of character that would have to be removed first before removing Trump.
I have my personal faves. Joe Lieberman leads the list.
SMART! He could run as the fusion candidate. “Not politics as usual.” “Hillary is politics as usual. Stop Washington Gridlock. Vote the fusion ticket!” “A Republican and a Democrat – united to serve the people instead of Washington Insiders.”
P.S. I know I promised to stay away, but that was so electorally smart that I had to respond. The question is not “are those slogans true?” Of course, they’re not! Neither will the Hillary-(whatever piece of banker trash she picks) ticket’s slogans. But they are believable. Everyone has miscalculated Trump because they are thinking politics. Trump is thinking Madison Avenue. Trump may not know jack shit about legislation, but he understands Madison Avenue very well.
Will try not to intrude on the Democratic blog again.
P.P.S. Heard Tim Kaine floated as Veep on the POTUS XM station. Sounds logical. Neoliberal, Washington Insider, Southerner.
Kaine is one guy that could make Hillary charismatic by comparison. But VA is probably not her biggest problem (if it were she’d probably prefer Warner or McAuliffe).
Look for somebody like that. Can’t have charisma, he/she would show up Shrillary. People keep talking about warren, but I feel she would soil her reputation joining the other side.
That’s also why I don’t expect her to go too young unless it’s someone like Quayle. Might be returning to the days when VPs were only relevant during the election.
Um, isn’t it obvious, Voice? SHrillary, as you call her, will just go to some day-labor site and pick up the first illegal she sees. If he doesn’t speak English, all the better.
Good to see you taking a break from burning crosses and stuff.
Someone we all hate. That’s clever.
He’s not after Democrats. A coalition of (R)’s and independents should do it.
The 7 days following tomorrow night’s electoral massacre are going to be brutal for the Cruz campaign. He’s desperate to give the media anything to say about his campaign other than “Desperate pact with Kasich fails to slow Trump momentum towards Indiana victory”.
Ayotte is a woman and what passes among Republicans for a moderate so maybe she’d have some appeal. She may figure she’s losing her Senate seat anyway so what the hey.
Portman may be duller than dirt but Trump has more than enough sizzle all by himself. He’d bring a sense of stability and has said, albeit reluctantly, that he’d support Trump. Maybe he’d take the job as a way of jump-starting his future presidential prospects. Perhaps he could be the guy running on the inside track in 2020.
I think he needs someone with real Washington creds. He can’t afford a Stockdale or a Palin. Christie would be an admission that no one else wants to play.
Ayotte and Portman are both up for re-election and have tough but likely winning battles ahead; so, no to both of them.
Agree. Picking either one just guarantees the Dems win that seat.
A non-starter.
My pick is still Christie, warts and all. He may want to make a play for NJ or NY.
So, I’m guessing that the Cruz-Kasich alliance to stop Trump didn’t play well in Indianapolis?
Last year, a Cruz PAC dumped half a million dollars into Fiorina’s PAC; so, perhaps he’s just trying to get any mileage possible out of that lemon.
For Indiana, Trump could just drag out Princess Dumbass of the Northwoods for a few appearances. Doubt that Trump has any plans to appease any GOP factions until after he secures the nomination when he have better information with which to work from.
Princess Dumbass of the Northwoods is getting a little stale me thinks. But there may still be a few crazies in rural Indiana.
I think Nikki Haley is the only logical VP choice for the Republicans, though Marsha Blackburn might be a possibility if you want someone with DC experience. But Haley brings a lot whether it is Trump of Cruz. Perhaps more for Trump: a woman on the ticket who fought off the white supremacists, who herself is a child of immigrants, etc. It would smooth arguments against Trump and might aid him in bringing along other Republican insiders who seem to like her.
The south hates Nikki for taking down the loser flag. I loath all of those female republican reps….six months of being lectured on baby parts. Any one of them would push me to make a sign and go to a Trump VP rally. The Donald needs a real evangelical or someone like W. Someone to bring out the christian vote. Vitter would be perfect if not for the diaper thing.
I’ve said it before, Trump will nominate Trump as VP.
I was thinking it was down to Omarosa or Jeff Sessions, but you are clearly right.
I know Kasich said he’s never support Trump. Never ever-never! But given that it could give him the inside track in 2020, I wonder if the Donald’s people might want to reach out quietly. Of course, as the Great 2012 Treaty of Indiana illustrates, Trump better get it in contract form. “I said I would run as his VP but I didn’t say I’d support the ticket.”
I’m thinking a Kardashian, a flying Walinda?
the only thing saving us from this is that Kim isn’t old enough.
But she is; already 35 and will be 36 on election day.
If Hillary is the dem nominee, the GOP VP will have ladyparts. Guaranteed.
Joni Earnst!! for teddy. teddy/carli would be the Ugliest
ticket EVER!!
Omarosa.
Cruz / Fiorina
She couldn’t run HP, but running the whole country would be a piece of cake should Cruz vacate the office.
Republicans are truly the party of ideas.
Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad ideas.
But you can’t have everything.
Petraeus? Might dull the email-gate attack a bit- although wingnuts think it is the opposite, because he has shown “remorse” for his release of classified information (and she hasn’t) but otherwise checks off a bunch of the boxes otherwise: not an establishment politician, most likely gets great fundi support, has military experience that Trump lacks, might be respected among low info independents…
On the negative side, he is on record saying that Hillary Clinton would make a “tremendous president”, which would probably be disqualifying.
Trump’s going to at least try to nominate Kasich. That’s been the obvious play for months.
As for Cruz — who cares? Fiorina’s an imbecile, and he’s not getting the nod anyway, in all likelihood (and it’d likely be a poisoned chalice if he did).
What, no Ben Carson? Oh, right– they’re not running against Obama, so their phony non-racism doesn’t need an avatar.
BILL COSBY.
Fiorina’s the only plausible candidate on offer less appealing than Cruz; he’s lucky to have her.
No idea WHO Trump would pick for VP, but HOW?
Isn’t it obvious? Trump would make it a reality-TV competition.
More opportunities for “YOU’RE FIRED!!”
I think the late days of the Roman Empire had similar shenanigans.
I thought there was some bad blood between the two, but Nikki Haley would seem like a smart pick for Trump (veneer of respectability, female, minority, executive experience, etc.), if she could stomach it.
Don’t you have to win the nomination first, Rafael?
Note, I said win, not STEAL.
