Hello again painting fans.
This week I will be starting with an entirely new painting. The photo I’m using is seen directly below. I’ll be using my usual acrylic paints on a 6×6 inch canvas.
Once again, I’m attempting to paint the Grand Canyon. My prior efforts have yielded rather poor results but I’m determined to try again. This time I’m using a different strategy. Yes, one needs a painting strategy when attempting such a subject.
I began with a pencil grid upon which I sketched in the shapes of the large elements. I’m not attempting super fine detail here. I’m going for an image that captures the overall look of the photo. For next week some actual acrylic paint.
The current state of the painting is seen in the photo directly below.
I’ll have have more progress to show you next week. See you then.
Earlier paintings in this series can be seen here.
Gotta get out there and do some leaf cleaning.
More insulation for me.

Got a new batch of political signs in last night so went out to plant some around town. My wife went along for the ones in the afternoon – great day for a stroll, 80F, sunny with a little breeze. We have yet to experience any frost at our house, which is unheard of for October around here. IIRC, our fall frost date used to be Oct. 10.
Excellent weather for sign planting. It’s been cold here in the Hudson valley.
Running errands and last minute Halloween costume shopping here. Oh, and of course candy shopping. Can’t disappoint the trick or treaters.
My wife always asks ‘why bother?’ But I enjoy it. A large difference between when I was young and these days is the vast majority are young (way under 10). And virtually every kid is with parents.

in my neighborhood plenty of the older kids. last year a group of the oldest, maybe 14 or 15, sang a christmas carol and I laughed my ass off. they earned a treat.
and some of the ones with parents are so little they’re really just props for mom to collect candy.
Yes on the props.
The very young is why I enjoy it. All dressed up.

no costume need for me this year but always have to get candy and a pumpkin.
