Winter sunrise. Taken by one of my daughters. I posted this before in one of the last Froggy Bottom Cafes. I’ve always loved this particular photo, and thought it worth recycling.
Anyone have any original photos to share? Please do so if you’ve got them. No real theme this month. We need a reminder that there is some beauty in this world.
For photo blogging from the earlier series, see this diary by BobX (the last curator of the original Foto Flog series) and work backwards. One last thing, you don’t have to have professional quality equipment or be a professional photographer to participate. I’m strictly an amateur hobbyist. I still have my old Canon 35 mm camera, but almost never use that due to lack of dark room, film development costs and whatnot. I use my current Galaxy S6 for photography (at least for the last year and a half) – and before that an Android G4. This is intended to be more of a casual series of diaries, in the spirit of the previous series.
In the meantime, I’ll put another one up next month, probably around the same time, so figure March 17. We’ll stick to keeping content open-ended.
Tips and recs if you’ve got ’em.
My inspiration for trying to revive the Foto Flogs comes from many who once graced the Pond with the work. I know I will probably forget someone, so I ask for forgiveness in advance if I do forget.
Inspiration: CG, boran2, JimF, AndiF, olivia, Hurria, Sven, ask, Indianadem, KNUCKLEHEAD, etc. Many of these individuals are no longer active. I treasured their work then. I still go back to some of the old Foto Flogs when I want to feel a bit more inspired. Perhaps a few will once more grace us with their work. Perhaps some newer members who are photographers will add to the mix. There is so much ugliness in the world we live in, but quite a bit of beauty as well. We need reminders of the latter periodically. Just sayin’.
“with THEIR work” – so much for spelling today.
It seems strange, but I find myself with less time on my hands since I retired a couple of years ago. How can that be possible, I wonder? Here are a few of my photos so that yours won’t be so lonely. Thanks for the memories of the old photo floggers.
I definitely want to keep the memory of those who used do this as alive as possible. There is I hope the off chance that some may return? I know when I revived this series, we did get some newcomers (janicket comes to mind).
Just a bias of mine: we need something pleasant to hold on to more now than ever. It’s not a distraction, but rather a reason to fight on.
An early morning photo I took last autumn.
Some street art in Chicago, late spring 2016.
Mesa country – July 2015.
Amsterdam, near Bimhuis.
Resist!
Taken in Budapest. Seems timely now.
For those curious, I use Flickr for hosting photos. It’s free and convenient enough. I’ve tried Photobucket, but never much cared for it. If I had the patience for Tumblr, I’d start a photo blog there. Once I have a functioning scanner again, along with the necessary free time, I hope to scan in a bunch of old photos taken with my Canon 35mm. I had just begun that project when my printer/scanner began to go kaput (right now it is little more than a glorified fax machine).
Gatepost adornment at the entrance to Owl Farm, Hunter Thompson’s last retreat at Woody Creek, CO. Its now home to The Gonzo Foundation.
The old lonesome pine at sundown
View to the west near the highest elevation in Indiana a couple of miles from my house
Ice, ice baby (not this winter – its about 70F outdoors here today
Bee balm by out front porch. Its an easy to grow perennial and the bees and other nectar eaters love it.
Now THAT’s what I’m talking about!
Yeah, I am sure I have a few ice and snow photos. Not this year for sure. We’ve had two consecutive years without a winter. Our extended late fall has yet again turned to spring.
Seen on a beach:
Hoping to get back to the west coast again at some point. There are a couple beaches I like to frequent that give me wonderful opportunities for photos like that.
i have dozens of photos of sand patterns, all different, from tiny ripples to sweeping rolling humps to…. well, the variety and beauty of wave-sculpted sand is truly astonishing.
Here are two albums at Photobucket of images I’ve captured:

Thanks everyone who participated. I’ll be back next month around the same time with another Foto Flog. Let’s stick to an open-ended theme again. Variety is the spice of life, after all.
In the meantime, if you still keep in touch with any of the earlier Foto Flog crew, spread rumors that some madman has got it in is head that inciting people to post photos is a worthwhile idea. Maybe a photo or two won’t change the world, but they can provoke thought or provide a needed reminder of what we share as values. I have the luxury of living near some land managed my the National Park Service, so perhaps I’ll throw in a photo or two I’ve taken of some of those sites (sites well worth preserving, I might add).
Until then, Auf Wiedersehen.
