From the linked story:
“Asked whether he believed the women’s accounts, (Robert Cardillo, director of the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency) demurred, saying, “I’m not sure that’s material.”
But then later in the story, we get this:
“(Cardillo) called the allegations against Knight “unfounded” and “completely false” but declined to comment further.”
Given this position of his, he is crying preposterous crocodile tears here:
“At the same time, given Knight’s fame and their close personal relationship, Cardillo said he was worried that the women might be reluctant to pursue a complaint or seek counseling.
“You can imagine my concern that people aren’t going to say something, or fear that I’m going to come after them if they raise an issue,” he said. “So I just wanted to make sure we were doing both things — take care of the people that have the concerns and just make sure that we follow the process by the book.”
Oh, we can see from the reporting that Cardillo took “care of the people that have the concerns” all right. He followed his personal process of assaulting “the people who have the concerns” with his special book.
I also got a rueful laugh from the part of the reporting which reveals how bureaucratic squabbles were used to help bury this inconvenient event.
Fuck Bobby Knight. And Robert Cardillo, who still has his Director position.
I really don’t understand how the woman who got repeatedly felt up in front of witnesses doesn’t have a case strong enough for the US District Attorney to feel like there is strong enough evidence “to result in a successful prosecution”. She was bizarrely grabbed around her chest in front of many witnesses and then grabbed on her buttocks in full view of a colleague who 100% supports her account. Did it have to be on tape?
Just disgusting.
And yet… Cops caught on tape doing blatantly illegal things like murder, get not guilty verdicts all the time.
I’m not completely ready to crucify the US D.A. yet, but I can understand a completely legitimate concern that even with all the evidence the US D.A. had plus a bunch of stuff said D.A. didn’t have like a confession on tape and video of the actual assault that the morons who get impaneled on the Jury won’t just let the guy off because ‘boys will be boys.’
I no longer have reason to have faith in Jurors to do the right thing and follow the law. Especially when it comes to a white person hurting or killing a black man or any woman.
