Favorite quote - "There are no innocents. There are, however, different degrees of responsibility" (Lisbeth Salander, from Stieg Larsson's original Millennium Trilogy).
I ended up enjoying Johnny Cash’s cover far more than the NIN original (and that’s not to diss the original, which was a fantastic effort in its own right).
Robbie Fulks was being interviewed by Terry Gross about the craft of writing songs. He was asked to play a well-written song from someone else. He picked this, and gave it a shockingly sincere delivery:
The movie version provided a different mixing of genres, and it broadened the lyric’s simple but deep thrill in witnessing the empowerment of a teenage girl and provided that empowerment to women of all ages. Get past the cringeworthy start and you’ll be rewarded:
I don’t know if I’ve ever seen an actress appear to have more fun than Streep did in this movie. Cannonball, Meryl!
Here’s a mid-1980s cover of an early Bob Dylan song. Susanna Hoffs contributed the vocals to this one-off supergroup of various members of the Paisley Underground scene that had a following in SoCal at the time.
Mixing drinks and musical genres. Enjoy!

Apropos your footer, wouldn’t it be better to call him a neo-nihilist?
Another beautiful voice snuffed out too soon. If you were a suburban kid in the 1970s, the Carpenters were part of your life’s soundtrack.
Here’s another gone way too soon,

Chris and Chester – two voices that will be missed.
