I don’t know if there are any Tom Petty fans in the audience, but this seems a good week to pay tribute to one of our deceased rock legends. Somehow, this song always had a certain resonance with me.
There are a lot of songs to choose from in his back catalog.
And one more for the road:
The bar is fully stocked. Tips are always appreciated. May the 4s be with you.
I had to think hard about the drink in honor of the deceased. Then I remembered that Petty was from Gainesville, Florida, home of the University of Florida Gators. Thus today’s drink.
You haven’t lived until you’ve had…SEX WITH AN ALLIGATOR! And it’s not nearly as dangerous or deadly as you might imagine! This crazy shot is layered and super cool looking. The dark layer of Jager floats on top, with a delicious, green mix of melon liqueur and sweet and sour mix below. Resting on the bottom is the rich red-hued raspberry liqueur. This shot definitely has an interesting taste–the Jager is masked by the fruity flavors that come right after it, so it’s hardly noticeable, making this a great shot for both girls and guys.

OMG that sounds nasty.
There are not many things I won’t drink if you’re buying, but Jager is on that list.
Do you have a request for a drink more to your liking?
Beer please. I’ll follow the Florida idea and ask for one from Cigar City in Tampa, how about Jai Alai IPA.
Here you go.
This is the song that popped into my mind when I heard that he died. I wasn’t alone. At least one of my friends posted the lyrics on Facebook that day.
When my daughter texted me the T.P. had passed, my immediate response was “And I won’t back down.”
I caught Petty live three times, The Long After Dark tour, the tour with Dylan in 86, and this show:
My favorite song of his, really crisp, clean, tight and to the point.
One of the best opening lines in rock:
The Waiting was the first Tom Petty single I picked up. Seemed to me at the time Byrdsian but with more current (at the time) production values. Nice tune.
The duets with Stevie were always nice:
Another duet:
thanks Don.
I saw Tom twice, both on the ’86 tour backing Dylan. I’m listening to the bootleg of 8/5/86 Mountain View CA right now.
“The future ain’t what it used to be.”
