It’s Thanksgiving weekend, so I am expecting that the traffic will be a little light.
I’ve been following Jah Wobble’s work since his stint with PiL. Seriously, Second Edition was lit, as some of the younger folks might say. What’s fun to listen to is how he has continued to synthesize his early influences with newer influences. His most recent stuff at times can sound quite reminiscent of mid-1970s jazz fusion at its finest. Chill but never boring.
In a sense, he’d probably be considered something of a legacy act. His days of fame are way behind him. But he keeps creating new tunes and if he ever were to play anywhere near me, I know I would not need to shell out a grand to take my spouse out for date night.
So enjoy your weekend. Drop by if you can.
Here’s a recent Wire track to tide you over.
Most of the time they record live in studio. This track, and the album from which it came, was recorded a bit differently, relying more on studio effects. They were never ones to look back, only forward. And they continue to do just that.
Anyhoo, the bar is open. The jukebox is loaded with more tunes than you could imagine. Enjoy!
The night before Thanksgiving is one of the biggest bar nights of the year along with New Year’s Eve and St. Patrick’s Day. To celebrate, I’m offering Thanksgiving Punch from Tipsy Bartender.
I have lots more Thanksgiving drinks where those came from, especially if one likes apple and pumpkin pies. Happy Thanksgiving!
My musical contribution this week is Public Image Limited’s (This is Not a) Love Song.

…to see one of Prince’s best stripped-down funk exercises paired with some incredibly entertaining and unusually skilled dance moves from him.
I give thanks that Prince Rogers Nelson was on this Earth as long as he was and gave so much of himself to us.
Yes, the performances in that Metal Box were singular:
