I’ve been in the weeds at work, what did I miss this time?
Well, I’m personally quite nervous. I trust that Mueller has built a doomsday machine.
Could be happening fairly soon. Remember, last April, Pyotr Levashov, who headed a major global computer hacking operation, which did ransomeware and many other illegal operations was indicted by a Connecticut federal grand jury. He was one of the main hackers of the 2016 election and apparently he was paid off by both the Trump campaign (through former Trump advisor, Boris Epshteyn, remember him?) and the Russian FSB.
So, if this pans out, this becomes more than just obstruction of justice but a clearly treasonous act (or series of acts, actually).
Like everything else during the Orangeshit Gibbon’s reign: what happened, who did it, and how it was done are simply not important. The reaction to it all IS the key to where our country is ultimately going.
Which is depressing considering, right now, for too many of our nation’s “elites,” President Stupid getting away with (insert whatever here) is more valuable than holding him to account.
So the big idiot has yet again passed responsibility off to a fumble-handed Nunes, who is trapped now. He hands the memo to the FBI and the Press gets a peek, where we’ll all get to see whether it’s filled with damning evidence of some wrongdoing, or another lazy, stupid attempt to cast aspersions on the Justice Department.
Trump said quite plainly during his first weeks in office that he didn’t trust the Intelligence agencies and I’m sure they haven’t forgotten. Trump is so enamored of himself and so desperate to throw attention off the Russian involvement in his election and probable money-laundering that he’s going to force the hands of subordinates and Republicans who probably wish he would stfu.
Please proceed, Trump. I hope you go down hard, you bloated, rotted, 239 pound hog.
The Very Stable Genius is once again proving to be his own worst enemy. The recent news of reservations about the memo, that it may be a “dud” is coming from the more sentient advisors around him, who realize that putting forth an Alex Jones wing it conspiracy level document, that is not only factually incorrect but without much real basis of justification, is going to have the opposite effect. Problem is the stable genius is also like a smart person so they can’t stop him from digging the hole deeper.
I think it’s premature. Mueller can’t possibly be ready to refer charges yet.
Maybe you’ll be pleasantly surprised. And maybe decades of money laundering will finally be exposed by the NY AG.

P.S. By the way, is the Mt Airy in your name referring to the resort in the Pocono mountains of eastern PA? The reason I ask is that I play a couple of times a month at the wonderful Deer Head Inn in Delaware Water Gap, PA. It’s the longest consecutively running jazz club in the U.S…and I guess that must mean the world as well.

Was thinking the same thing. Doesn’t seem to be a topic of conversation in any of the circles I am part of. Nor has that shown up on my Twitter feed. Under the circumstances, like you, I’d like some evidence to back up the claim “a lot of people” would like Ivanka to replace Dolt 45, and even better how they imagine that actually transpiring.
I imagine we read a lot of the same sources, and literally no one wants any Trump running the country, ever. And that applies to all of the Republicans, too: get out and don’t come back!
I haven’t seen much of a hankering for a Trump dynasty in anything I’ve read. I expect our news sources do overlap quite considerably.

Well, the memo actually refutes a number of Republican talking points. Page had been under surveillance long before the FBI saw the Steele dossier, the tap in question didn’t start until after he left the campaign, and it doesn’t even allege that the supporting evidence was weak, just complains that one source out of probably dozens might have been biased.
I’m more convinced than every of direct, active, collusion. The Republican’s position is so weak than even attempting to lie for their position they undermine it. Some of this is undoubtedly Loony Nunes’ idiocy but I think it reflect the incredible underlying weakness of their position that nothing was going on.
Yeah, none of their behavior makes any sense unless they know they’re guilty as sin.
Sometimes when I try to understand a person’s motives, I play a little game. I assume the worst. What’s the worst reason they could possibly have for saying what they say and doing what they do? Then I ask myself, “How well does that reason explain what they say and what they do?”

Well, the “conservative” movement and its party have now sided with a wholly unqualified, deranged Fuhrer-wannabe against a traditional Repub bastion, the FBI. Through issuance of an obviously intellectually dishonest piece of propaganda masquerading as an objective “official report”. There’s no going back now.
There’s no doubt what the Rightwing Noise Machine will do now. And the corporate TV media will be at pains to legitimize Repub actors via Bothsiderism.

True…my relatives and co-workers will likely only hear “Don’t bother actually reading the memo cause we promise it’s VINDICATION that the Deep State Is After Dear Leader cause He’s just TOOOO AWWWWEEEESSSSOOOOOMMMMEEEEE!”
Corporate media will also keep running Republican voter fluff pieces that all conclude “They’re still with him!” without ever dismissing them as just a horrid bunch of racist reprogrammable meat puppet fascists.
Firing the special prosecutor will naturally be worse than if he comes out with accusations against Trump. In that case, Republicans can always deny or refute any accusations against Trump, stonewall and counter-attack using their propaganda outlet Fox News.
But, if Trump figures that firing the Special Prosecutor and then circling the wagons is a winning strategy, he’s madder than mad cow disease. Yet, this seems to be his strategy. He’s been trying to set this up all along, and now this idiot memo is giving him the chance. “Serious misdeeds at the FBI! I had to act to shut down the fake investigation!”
Except that if he does that, absolutely every thing that he’s been covering up will leak, almost immediately. The FBI has always leaked like a sieve to favored reporters, going back to Bob Woodward and Deep Throat – who let us not forget was #2 man at the FBI.
So far everything I’ve read about this memo points to it being an epic fail aka dud. It wanders into legal fantasies, has errors of fact, undermines their own argument. Sounds like they had a narrative to push and crafted the memo to fit that narrative.

The only real difference?
The neocentrists had pros working on their narrative for a long time…lots of them and very good at their jobs they are…while the RatPubs seem to have fiddled their “memo” together in a panic. Plus they are as dumb as sticks or else they wouldn’t be supporting Trump in the first place.

The neoliberal elites flew up their ass today. Market down 665 points. Bubble leaking. Fear of rising interest rates cause there’s a higher deficit to finance and everyone knows you gotta pay more interest when you float more debt. And then there’s this bloody Trump Nunes memo that has some all freaked out or not. I heard it all on CNBC. Beautiful the way they all got the answer. Time for Trump to weigh in here. Or better yet, quit.

Might even lose some more on Monday. Lost over a thousand this week. Bubble territory even with tax cuts.
Watched the financial channels all day; they won’t say it but Trump touched the economy and he breaks everything he touches.

I wouldn’t say it’s a “bubble” in the sense of the housing bubble or even dotcom. The prices are just high because corporate profits and earnings are high, they just got a yuuuge corporate tax cut that was made permanent, and interest rates are still in the post-1981 downward trend range. Yes, PE ratio is high, historically — but income going to labor is also historically low.
Right now markets are spooked because 10-year is knocking on that 3% door, which breaks from the post-1981 trendline. And if it breaks, the chances rise that it’ll go much higher (and by much higher, I don’t think anyone means above 3.5-4%). Nonetheless, that would send a pretty big correction. But…most of the forecasters baked that into the tax cut cake, and yet they still had S&P hitting 2.9-3k by year’s end.
Just change a proper name here and there.

Nunes admitted on FOX that he never read the FISA application AND THEN he said that this memo was just phase I, that the investigation is now going after the State Dept.
Is there any doubt that Nunes thinks he’s found his Benghazi distraction; that he thinks every time the Mueller team gets a little closer it’s his job to toss out a memo or two like some shiny object so we forget to look at their do nothing Congress, lack of DACA negotiations, a CR that is about to expire?
So Trey Gowdy is the only one who actually read the FISA application. Then suddenly decides not to run for re-election, and bails on a committee gig? Wonder what he saw in that thing?

I learned today (a little late) that Trump may have laundered money for the Duvalier family, among other awful folks. Even by the standards of despotism, the Duvaliers were truly sick fuckers. It would be appropriate if this ended with Trump in chains being extradited to Haiti.
