Personally, I think Devin Nunes is totally out of control. And Paul Ryan is letting it happen, which is not quite as bad as pedophile Denny Hastert letting his members screw the pages but getting pretty close.

I was puzzled by this at first, since Ryan must realize that Nunes’s antics are likely to be counterproductive in the long run. But it’s just more evidence that the Republican party is totally at the mercy of the True Believer Trumpistas. Ryan doesn’t think he has any good options, I expect.
Eddie Munster just does what he’s told. Ever notice how the Koch brothers have made peace with Cheeto?
Getting right with Orange Julius is not really the same as getting right with Devin Nunes. The whole point is, Nunes isn’t actually helping.
I don’t think Ryan much cares anymore. He got his horrible tax cuts and he intends to savage entitlements to reduce the increased deficit that he just created. This effort will go exactly nowhere in an election year. He really doesn’t care about foreign affairs at all.
Also, I suspect he thinks he may not get re-elected and at least will no longer be Speaker come next January. Added to these factors, Republicans are addicted to skullduggery.
I suspect he could be reelected quite easily.
It’s the Speakership that’s in great jeopardy, especially if the Blue Wave is anywhere near successful.
You may be right, but there is a credible candidate running against him this time and he seems to be running a good campaign. Name of Randy Bryce. He deserves all our support.
I honestly think that Ryan may be done, either because the voters say he is but more likely that he himself has decided to go home and be with his kids before they grow up and leave home.
I don’t think the Republicans have any concept of “in the long run.” They figure the Rapture will come before the Rupture.
The article mentiones re-election. For some reason I thought Nunes has said he was leaving office at the end of his term. Did that change or did I have it wrong from the start?
Presumably you are thinking of the loathsome San Diego Repub Darrel Issa, reputedly the wealthiest House member.
I think I confused the claim he was “stepping aside” from the investigations in committee, with retirement.
By the way, some “stepping aside” hey? At least he is a clown about the way he is interfering.

oops.
Right about now it would be nice for one of the investigative reporters to put together a piece demonstrating the millions that found their way from the Russian oligarchs into the Rep coffers are now seeing a payback. And while they’re at it, leaked emails and such that the Russians have for purposes of blackmail. Just sayin.
I keep waiting for Every Democrat to start referring to the NRA as the National Russian Association–sorry! I mean Rifle. What did I say, again? Oh! Slip of the tongue, I guess because they got $50 million from Russian spies or whatever.
I find it very strange that the news about the Russians/NRA stooges got such little press. That was a great McClatchy story but seemed to get very little wider traction and caused no uproar.
Democrats say a truly bad thing that Republicans have done once.
Republicans pound fictitious things about Democrats until everyone thinks they’re true. And make verbs out of imagined injustices like `he was Borked’
Democrats just don’t have the staying powder.
Or power, either.
. . . every football (“soccer” ball to uninitiates) GOPers kick down the field.
Dems can do what you recommend, and WTUCM give it one news cycle, at best. Meanwhile, they STILL slaver over anything/everything wingnuts blather about Hillary’s e-mails.
There’s some truth in what you say. Just not “the whole truth, and nothing but the truth”.
Nunes is certainly not running some rogue operation here. Ryan and his Reprobates clearly have collectively decided that they will stand with conman Trumper and the braindead brownshirt base, trusting in their Gerrymandered nationwide seawall to protect their illegitimate majority. Hence the incredible public siding with Trumper over the FBI.
A few Repubs whose districts are slightly below sea level (Issa for example) have decided to forgo the possible humiliation of a loss and clear out to greener wingnut welfare pastures while the gettin’s good, but most have likely been assured by Team Repub they can ride out any envisioned “wave”–as long as the nation’s Trumpite Turds are not crossed and enraged by Repubs not appearing to wipe Trumper’s ass as lovingly as possible. As long as the wagons are circled, Repubs cannot be held accountable for their grotesque malfeasance.
That means Nunes and the Boyz have been cleared to obstruct and manipulate as much as humanly possible, trusting in the general ignorance of the populace to miss what’s being carried out in plain sight, and the general cascading complication(s) of PutinGate to be undecipherable by the ADD-ridden corporate media.
I’m hoping that Ironstash puts Ryan away for good. The sonofabitch is a disgrace, an absolute disgrace.
The GOP is out of control. Nunes is but one of the outrages they’ve visited upon the nation, including Trump as a clearly unfit president, the stealing of a supreme court pick, the shirking of their duties as a congress to provide clearly needed checks against a presidency that has overstepped and ignored the law, and violation of every norm and tradition the two parties have used as a foundation to work together.
Time and again in their naked pursuit of power, they’ve faced no effective pressure of accountability from the press or the “opposition party.”
The Constitution is flawed, because it was written during a time when society could reasonably expect men in positions of power to act with integrity. Its clear now that without men and women of integrity, it just doesn’t work as intended.
If we survive and recover from this dark period in American history, it will be because all of the Republican bad actors are fucking morons and are too stupid to accomplish their goals.
